    Official OPLv0.7 User Guides

This guide consider the user is on Windows, but ask if you're on Linux.

It maybe needs to be adjusted a bit for the latest revs when using 'User Security Level'. Worst case scenario I'll help you to configure it properly.
I am using Windows XP SP3. I only use Linux for compiling OPL. My friend, the one who sells me that helps me to configure it yesterday before I tested it on my PS2 and it works with OPL rev500. He used that on with the later revisions of OPL so he's pretty familiar on how to configure it properly. I've bought it to use on my old fat (noisy) PS3 for OPL. We have tested it on PS3 and it's a bit much faster than using a USB HDD on PS3 when running PS2 games with FMV and the stutters on some games are almost gone. Thanks for the link on your guide on how to configure this. I'll read them so that if in case I bought a laptop, I'll have a guide to configure it properly.

BTW: My friend can understand Indonesian a bit and he said that the latest Indonesian Translation in OPL rev500 to rev502 needs to be updated because of some inconsistencies. According to him some Menu labels are not placed correctly by the one who translated it. I tested the Indonesian Translation my self even though I can't understand it, and noticed very quickly that he was right. Even some who doesn't understand Indonesian will quickly notice the inconsistencies when they test it. I think it should be fixed by "Saver" the one who translated it or by some Indonesian translator. Thank You!

    Hi,

    i've found another issue.

If the NAS is connected directly to the PS2 using a normal cat5 or crossover-cable most Singstar and BUZZ games are stuttering.

In the Singstar song selection screen it takes 20 seconds between selecting a new song and hearing the music and music is stuttering in selection screen and while singing. If the mic-adapter is removed while in song selection screen problem is gone, but as soon as it is reconnected it's stuttering again (sounds a little bit weird to me).

If the NAS and PS2 are connected to a network-switch there is no stuttering at all.

After many hours of troubleshooting i've found a solution.

If MAX_SMB_SECTORS in /modules/iopcore/cdvdman/smb.h is set to 1 (current value 2) it's all running smooth.

    Tested revisions: 523 and 530

    Problem exists:
    SCES_538.91.SingStar - Rocks [DVD-de, PAL]
    SCES_545.99.SingStar - '90s [DVD-en, PAL]
    SCES_546.00.SingStar - Die Toten Hosen [DVD-de, PAL]
    SCES_551.59.SingStar - Amped [DVD-de, PAL]
    SCES_555.70.SingStar - Chartbreaker [DVD-de, PAL]

    Problem not exists:
    SCES_525.65.SingStar [DVD-de, PAL]
    SCES_531.80.SingStar - The Dome [DVD-de, PAL]
    SCES_536.04.SingStar - '80s [DVD-de, PAL]

Maybe this is an issue of newer Singstar games only.

I would really like to provide a wireshark log, but i'm sorry i can't.
As soon as i connect my PS2 to a network-hub the collision LED on the hub and the traffic LED on NAS are flashing like hell, i can't ping the PS2 and theres no traffic at all to log.

    [EDIT]
OPL is forced to negotiate to 100Base-T, Full Duplex by compiler directive in /modules/network/SMSMAP/Makefile:

    IOP_CFLAGS += -Wall -fno-builtin -DFORCE_100M_FD

That's why it couldn't negotiate to my 10Base-T Hub. After removing this directive traffic capture is possible.

Normal traffic (MAX_SMB_SECTORS = 2) should look like that:

    ReadAndXRequest
    ACK
    [TCP segment of reassembled PDU]
    [TCP segment of reassembled PDU]
    ReadAndXResponse
    ACK
    next ReadAndXRequest

But looking at the logs there are some 1-3 seconds lags between packets, sometimes there are 2 ACK's for ReadAndXResponse-segments and sometimes ReadAndXResponse-ACK is send before last ReadAndXResponse-segment.

    ReadAndXRequest
    ACK
    [TCP segment of reassembled PDU]
    [TCP segment of reassembled PDU]
    ACK
    LAG

    ReadAndXResponse
    ACK
    next ReadAndXRequest

    ReadAndXRequest
    ACK
    [TCP segment of reassembled PDU]
    [TCP segment of reassembled PDU]
    ACK
    LAG

    ReadAndXResponse
    No ACK
    next ReadAndXRequest

    [\EDIT]

    bye
    Thinner

Hopefully these remaining SMB/NAS-Incompatibilities can be somewhat sorted out in the future.

@Thinner: Would you mind to make screenshots of your current settings and firmware version? I've just got a Mini DIGITUS NAS DN-7023, and all my tries to make it be recognised from the PS2 side have been failed...:-(...

EDIT: Don't worry, my problem was solved (in another thread started by me). But still there's room for further improvements in order to solvesttutering issues ...;-)

    I had this same issue:

But as soon I made the following (and only this) change, the problem has been solved. Almost all videos are playing smoothly without any kind of stuttering:

That's why it couldn't negotiate to my 10Base-T Hub. After removing this directive traffic capture is possible.
In another words, I solved the stuttering problem on my Digitus NAS DN-7023 after commenting the last compiler directive in /modules/network/SMSMAP/Makefile:
    Code:
    IOP_CFLAGS += -Wall -fno-builtin #-DFORCE_100M_FD
Now, OPL isn't forcing to negotiate to 100Base-T / Full Duplex anymore; due to this, the videos are playing smoothly for 95% of titles I own ;-)

So in fact an OPL build having the SMSMAP with both compile type configureable from options would be a good thing, no ?

Yes, this option on GUI certainly would be very welcome! ;-)
