Play PS2 Backup ISO's on Fat Backwards Compatable PS3 with OPL Works!!!! –

I apologize if this is not the place to put this.
Hi all,
I've tried for quite some time to get Open PS2 Loader going but it never worked out. Last friday night that changed. If you have a Swapmagic Original disk and are interested in playing your PS2 backup Iso's on your Backwards Compatable PS3 then read on.
***** Remember you have to have a Fat Backwards Compatable PS3. *****
I've cut and pasted what I needed to explain the "how to" so credits to all!!
On your PS3 create a PS2 memory card.
You need to have a retail SwapMagic 3.6+ or 3.8 disc. (currently there is no other option available)
You'll also need Open PS2 Loader.
I downloaded version 9.1 Here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachme...ader_0.9.1.zip
The steps for loading Open PS2 Loader :
1. Rename OPS2LD.ELF to SMBOOT0.ELF
2. Make a folder in the root of a USB device, name it SWAPMAGIC and copy the SMBOOT0.ELF into it.
3. Launch SwapMagic in the PS3, press th PS button to startup the controller (It shuts off as PS2 Dics load), and then press UP+L1. Open PS2 Loader should start.
This part always messed me up because it always froze at the swapmagic screen right after I pressed UP+L1. I have one 1gb, two 2gb, and two 4gb usb sticks all noname, and all did not work. I thought that OPL just didn't work. Last Friday I tried an 8gb sony stick just for shits and giggles that was lying in my computer parts drawer. IrisManager can do PSX and if I can get this going, I'd be golden. I Formated it fat32 and copied the swapmagic folder right off one of the 2gb sticks (That didn't work) on to the 8gb sony and the friggin thing worked. All that to say that it only seems to work with certain usb sticks. Chipset related??? Maybe someone here could explain that.... I Can't.
Before you can play a game you have to have your iso's created. I used USBUtilv2.0 from here:
http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachme...version%5D.rar
Don't even try running of the USB....Painfully slow in loading and the in game movies are horrible!! You have to use a network share. Also make sure your PS3 is connecting using the ethernet cable and not wifi.
I have a Windows 7 system sharing the folder C:\PS2Games. I didn't bother making sub folders for CD or DVD. USBUtilv2.0 rips them directly to that folder. So when you're done all your images and the ul.cfg file should be in that folder.
Now back to the PS3 and OPL has started up:
4. Select Settings -> Ethernet Device Start Mode = Auto and Default Menu = ETH Games, then select "OK"
5. Network settings -> and fill in the IP information.
It's better to put a static ip because once you set the ip information the only way I found to change it was to delete the OPL settings in the PS3 PS2 memory card manager. So if your PS3 is set to DHCP then everytime you get a new ip it will be a hassle. (Dev's can you fix that??)
For the network share folder, put the share name PS2Games. (It can be whatever share you want just make sure it's the same as the share you made on your PC) For the user I put a name and a password for an account that already existed on the Windows 7 Pc. I didn't want to enable the guest account.
Select OK
6. Select "Save settings" and that's it your done.
7. Press the red "Circle" on the PS3 controller and you'll go to the ETH Games menu and should see all your games.
Thanks to all the guys that developed OPL!!!
The games load fast enough, but....yes there is a but..... the videos have some lag. Lets hope they figure out how to play of the internal HDD or a custom firmware or Manager comes out that blows the PS3 wide open.
A quick note for the games that give a black screen......"Disable IGR" in the Game Settings. Read about it here: Official OPLv0.8 User Guides
Another Note: If you load up OPL and it can't see the network share any longer but everything seems fine. Reboot the PC that has the share and that seems fix it..... Don't ask why it just does.
Cheers!!

Good idea! But they seem to ignore PS2 developments--what a shame.

This is a really nice guide and I am trying to do this but seem to have run into a problem with the network settings.
I'm not entirely sure what IP info I need to enter here to be able to view my shared folder on my PC. (get Network Startup Error 300)
Any help provided would be greatly appreciated.
*EDIT* It was a router issue. I had to forward some ports to get things to work properly. Thank you again for your awesome guide!!

For anyone else having the same problem as me with 0.91 not opening up. Its not your usb stick!. Just start with 0.6 once that boots save your settings. Then move on to 0.7 it will now boot save settings. Then 0.8 then 0.91. Hope this helps.

What firmware are you using. I'm on Rogero_CEX_4.30_v2.03. I don't know if it makes a difference but I put the usb stick in the left most port. I'll have to try it in other ports to see if it will works.

Ok the port makes no difference. Just checked and it's fine.
