Hey, been a lurker for a long time and read a ton of threads on the problem but still hoping you guys can help a friend out some more. also i know this is a lot of info, but past experience proves that more is more and the more you guys know the more you can offer assistance.

i have opl .7, ule 4.41, fmbc 1.8b, basically all the latest stuff installed and working on my ps2 slim, silver, 7000 something series. no modchips, no swapmagic disks, none of that junk.

so anyways i have a Maxtor 500 gig One Touch hdd external usb enclosure. one that supposedly works great with the ps2, in fact Maxtor hdd's are all around awesome for consoles afaik. i have it partitioned into a 400 gig WBFS partition (wii backup file system), a 20 gig NTFS partition (also used in tandem with the wbfs for the wii), and a 80 gig Fat32 partition for Ps2 games. I partitioned my 80 gig section using Paragon Partition Manager 2010 into a NTFS partition and then into Fat32 and then i defragged my 4 ps2 games, installed them with USButil 2.1, then defragged the whole partition, and then tried to load them up in OPL. OPL recognizes the games are installed and lets me boot them but i always get stuck on a yellow screen. no matter the game and no matter the settings. (the games are ffxii, psyconauts, burnout 3, and shadow of the colossus; all of with afaik shld work, esp ffxii) The games are all unpatched and unmodified dumps as well.

also to see if paragon wasnt cutting it as far as partitioning and formating and defragging i have also tried using the dos ul_format commands, which work for formating but dont work for playing, and the power defragger 3.0 with the TriplePass.

idk why this is and its making me sad :[ my hdd shld work, i seem to have followed all the steps, my ps2 shld be compatible, and some help would be much appreciated everyone.

tl;dr; - yellow screen in opl.7 on all games, possible fixes welcome

it seems like they are still fragmented. did you try an alternate defragment utility?

ive tried power defrag 3.0 as well as paragon partition editer. i can try defraggle too i guess >.>

also i just took my 16 gig staples usb stick and formatted the whole thing, only one partition, into fat32, installed ffxii, and tried that. once again shows up in opl but yellow screen, also it boots at least in usbadvance (hard to tell if i have the latest .elf), if by work we mean freezes half way through the intro and wont progress farther.

    shld i just keep defragging

EDIT: just opened up my maxtor in defraggler and it also reports zero fragmentation in my fat32 partition, as well as that 20gig ntfs partition, and the wbfs one isnt recognized so idk there. also on my 16 gig usb stick it reports zero fragmentation.

There are several known reasons for a yellow screen freeze:

    -bad ISO rips
    -fragmented game files
    -incompatible USB device

Since you have already defragmented your drive without success, i would try another USB device. Maxtor is a good brand, but it might be the partition location causing the issues, maybe it needs to be the primary partition. I use the entire drive as a single partition, so i cant help too much on the multi-partitioned drives. I suspect its having 3 different formatted partitions as the cause on your 500GB drive.

But i can verify ffxii, burnout 3, and shadow of the colossus work fine in OPL, as i have these 3 games.

thanks for the timely and helpful responses btw guys. 'preciate it!

and yes i figured it might very well be my three partitions or just my maxtor in general which is why i partitioned my 16gig usb stick as a single primary fat32 partition with three of those four games on it (all four wont fit, three gives me a comfortable 5 gigs extra and a swath of the games to test it on). it is conceivable that my usb stick is also incompatible but i thought they had a better success rate, just horrible lag etc due to no direct power supply. so idk. im saying its kinda unlikely both my maxtor external hdd /and/ my usb stick are both broke'd.

also is it safe to assume my iso rips are ok due to the fact that ffxii loads up and gets as far as a half way through the intro in usbadvance? also psychonauts loads up and freezes at a b/w logo screen. which while obviously not working at least must demonstrate that its not my iso rips, its usbA in this case, and something entirely different i imagine in OPL.

idk. this is a little frustrating seeing how much time ive spent working on this to no avail. i might just look into getting an ethernet cable for my ps2 and trying the network route :\ not that im against the network and i knw its faster but ive got a seemingly perfectly good usb hdd right here *sigh*

If you can go to network mode, don't hesitate ...

It is faster, and will support full iso in next realease (avail currently in beta if you can compile it yourself), and you won't have any fragmentation or device compatibility problem.

However just for info, as coincidence Jimmi is currently working on fixing some incompatibilities for USB devices (r318 and more to come).

thanks guys and i will def look into network then. one of the only things holding me back from trying that over the usb was i have a usb hdd and i dont have a spare ethernet cable. so anyways, network it is.

but as an aside, and in relation to that you just said izdubar, i often see revXXX or revXXX version of OPL. I assumed these are all older versions of OPL and now its been consolidated into the .5 then .6 then .7 etc versions.

am i missing something? like are there beta revisions and the such being worked on and released separately by ppl as they finish them atm? in the wii hacking scene its extremely common place to have revX after revX come out in short bursts from individual people and usually the most up to date versions can be found on sites like filetrip or in the forums.

so my newest question then basically is are there (potentially unstable) revisions for OPL that extend past 0.7? and if so where do i find these and the documentation about them? (if they exist at all!)

once again thanks guys for the help! :]

Open PS2 Loader is an open source project. You can find the sources here:

    http://bitbucket.org/ifcaro/open-ps2-loader/overview

revXXX refers to a specific revision (commit). The 0.6, 0.7 are only one revision tagged as an official release.

So, usually when someone talk about "revXXX" it is for newer version, that is currently only available in the source repository.

Only official versions are released as binary, to avoid spreading "beta" versions through every forums, which may lead to confuse users. But you can compile any revision yourself, there are guide to help you for this task:

    http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63749 ([Linux] OPL compile guides)

That guide is for linux only (and probably not up to date).

Then you can use some available VM made by users (yoshi and loki), to boot up minimalistic linux distris into either vmware or virtualbox:

http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63778 (Download Ubuntu Virtual Machine + enviroment to compile OPL)

I use a 1TB USB Western Digital for both USB and Network. Since you already have a USB setup with games on it, you might have better luck simply connecting the USB HDD to your PC and of course you'll need the ethernet cable.

Network allows you to specify what share to use, so as long as your PC can handle the HDD having 3 different partitions, you shouldnt have any problems setting your FAT32 partition as a share.
