OPL, Windows 7prox64, and lots of details/problems thanks ahead of time –
06-05-2011,05:43 PM
Well guys, i know there a whole bunch of posts everywhere and ive tried to follow directions on this forum and practically every website i could ever imagin, youtube videos, everything...
I always get no success....
Im not sure what it is that im doing wrong...
I have an alienware aurora tower with both wireless and an ethernet port.
i am running windows 7 pro x64
I get my wireless internet from a 2wire box, althout im not sure if that makes a difference here.
My wireless internet is set on the router to always assign my pc the following information: its setup with dhcp, but no matter what and because its always on, and in my router config, it will always, give it this
bayimg - image: ughh..jpg - free uncensored image hosting
in case u dont like looking at ppics then thats:
ip 172.16.1.65 (preferred)
mask 255.255.255.0
gw 172.16.1.254 ->dns and dhcp are the same as this.
then theres my local area connection (where the ps2 is plugged in with crossover cable)
bayimg - image: ugh 1222.png - free uncensored image hosting
i should manually be putting this in, correct?
but then what do i enter in the ipv4 fields?
is it okay for
ip 172.16.1.66
mask 255.255.255.0
and then leave the rest blank?
then on opl
ps2
ip 172.16.1.67
mask 255.255.255.0
gw 172.16.1.254 (assuming its the same as the computer)
pc
ip 172.16.1.65
port 445
Share PS2SMB
user GUEST -> my compuoter has Guest enabled, but its not in caps, does that make a difference even?
password Blank
Finally, i have gone to user accounts and enabled the guest account on my pc, just in case that makes a difference....
not only that, but i have setup the file and sharing options in the network and sharing center, the top one is cut off, but it is network discovery and is on,..
bayimg - image: ugh 333d.png - free uncensored image hosting
i have right clicked and shared the C:\PS2SMB\ Folder, and it has CD AND DVD folders in it, and inside the DVD folder is a SLUS_21419.DOC.iso which is Dirge of Cerberus
So, then i save my changes..
Btw my ps2 has a modchip in it, im not sure what kind.. maybe DMS. it boots ps2dvd, resets itself in PS1 mode and starts those up, take dual layers, and i believe reboots in dvd mode, plus i can disable it by starting upo holding reset for a few seconds, its a slim black ps2, cant remember the model, i have to disable it for fmcboot or else my system reboots constantly and then my clock and stuff have to be reset after,.. so i boot swap magic 8 and use the smboot options to boot programs from MC instead of fmcboot, because i kept messing up my system by forgetting to turn off the modchip
before starting it, and ive tried the swap magic 8 disc both with the modchip on and off with these settings.
anyways,,
we will also note that windows firewall is off for both privat (home and work) and public networks, that my wireless is set to a work network so there is no homegroup crap... and if you wanna see that before i turn on the ps2, then here ya go
bayimg - image: ugh3.png - free uncensored image hosting
heres what my adapters look like prior to turningf on the ps2...
bayimg - image: ughh4d.png - free uncensored image hosting
i dunno, so i bridge them or something?
alright, now that you have an idea of my setup, you can see my agony, keep in mind i will restart my computer at this point, just incse and for completeness.
now ive restarted the ps2, wth the modchip off, open swap magic disc, choose the smboot with openloader.with all the setup good to go(or so i would think but apparently not)
i will also note that eth device startup is manual..
so i hit x and i wait.
now it says network cable unplugged still on the pc end on my
adapter..
FML
whats worse is that i can get it to say the ps2 is plugged in, if i open my second smboot, which is ulauncelf..
set my network configurations to
IP: 172.16.1.67
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 172.16.1.254
then i go to home-> ps2 net to try and run the ftp now it actually notices the ps2 is on and trying to get on my crossover, but now i have this garbage
bayimg - image: ugh one millionitled.png - free uncensored image hosting
basically says my ps2 is there, unidentified, and has no network access in the network and sharing center, which is i believe the problem. and ive heard its sometimes easier to start with ulaunchelf tog et the connection then use opl afterwards, so i started going this route.
now i just went and found in the advanced windows firewall i could also turn off the domain firewall, so i did that, ill try both again, then i tihnk im ready to break the stupid 3000 dollar computer and get one with xp so i dont have to be a genius to ****in use a network ><
the above extra tidbit ofcourse did nothing oh joy.
any thoughts on my settings= im probably using the wrong numbers somewhere in there and its making me puke my balls up thru my nose.
greatly appreciated for the help.. maybe even paypal the person a bit of scril if they can make it work for me
edit:
also when trying to connect to the ps2ftp i get this
The connection has timed out
The server at 172.16.1.67 is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
EDIT
sorry that bayimg is down, im sure it will be up again soon. thanks for helping

i would also like to point out that if it comes down to it, i have a tp-link router that i can hook my pc and ps2 to, but it just seems like sooo unneccessary to do that when a simple crossover to ps2 would suffice, and if i take down my wirelesss internet for the tplink then i gotta open ports for my two utorrent instances and all that jazz thru the dumb router too, when i already have a perfectly fine network goin on here.
edit
or is it worth it to just burn the dvds and say opl is for people without windows 7?
ive modded everything under the sun and this seems like the most challenging task yet its so simple seeming.
ive flashed psps, modded ps3, stealth mod psone, swap tricked psx, eploited phat ps2 with psone disc and cogswap, soft and hardmod wii then put a sundriver in it and took my drivekey out, and am about to flash a xbox dvd drive just cause i got a free "broken" system which had the usb port bent grounding issue... surely this should not be as hard as it is making it for me, i usually know what to do when it comes to reading the faq, but i just cant get it..

Hi,
One thing I see wrong in your setup is the gateway on the PS2, try putting the IP assigned to your LAN card, aka 172.16.1.66 if you use a crossover cable.
-

You made some wrong entries.
If you plugged your PS2 with a xover-cable in PC then you cant write in the OPL-PS2-"GW" the number of your 2wire-router (172.16.1.254).
You must put the ip (you give your LAN-card for your PC) in OPL-PS2-"GW" also 172.16.1.66.
And in OPL-pc you give it again....
So your config must shows this....
PC
IP: 172.16.1.66
MASK: 255.255.255.0
GW: <empty>
then on opl
ps2
ip 172.16.1.67
mask 255.255.255.0
gw 172.16.1.66
pc
ip: 172.16.1.66
port: 445
Share: PS2SMB
user: GUEST
password: <empty>
And here is a mistake....
.....and inside the DVD folder is a SLUS_21419.DOC.iso
i dont know if you make mistake here or if its so on your HDD.
You have forgett a point....
SLUS_214(.)19.DOC.iso

i changed the info to reflect the most recent post of this thread. and thanks as well to the person before that with the less detailed but still useful informatio.
Thanks so much for your time you guys but if i go the route of just opl it doesnt even recognize the ps2, and says network cable unplugged...
if i go thru ulaunchelf i still get the unidentified network - no network access in the network and sharing center.... i tried to uninstall and delete the drivers for my network card then i also went into command prompt as administrator and did the following:
"My solution is to use the Windows Command Screen as Administrator and remove all default routes.
ROUTE DELETE 0.0.0.0
This removes the default routes from all network interfaces. You must then reapply the necessary default routes to your interfaces (Do not use address of the network adapter as the default). If you have an isolated network (without any router, firewall, or gateway) with more than one computer -- I do this in a development laboratory -- is to choose for default address for Vista, 2008, Win-7, to be the IPv4 address of any other attached network interface."

then i tried again, and with still no success...
i renamed the game name btw thanks for that, but in opl i dont even get that the ps2 is there on the pc side so i guess that wouldnt have mattered quite yet cause i cant even establish the connection... and in ulaunchelf i get the connection is there but i cant ping it (at the .67 address in command prompt) and so on...
i have run netowork problem diagnostic and told it i was trying to specifically connect to the 172.16.1.67 address and it basically spit out this:
bayimg - image: ferreald.png - free uncensored image hosting
(computer appears to be configured correctly, but the device is not respongding)
its quite an annoying feat to get this hooked up, thanks if you have any more pointers like maybe i set up the advanced file and sharing wrong or something...
ive also went ahead and tried the user name and password of my pc in opl, but i mean, if i cant establish the conenction in ulaunchelf to get netowrk access, and opl doesnt even recognize ps2 on pc end, i guess it makes sense that it wouldnt work either. ><

actually thinking ill do everyone including myself a favor, and hook up the thing to my girlfirneds netbook with xp and a different cable to make sure its not the ps2 internet port if nothing else can be thought of
actually not working on netbook xp either, same issues, so i guess i get a new ps2 withouit the chip or borrow one to make sure its not the system? FML

So i went ahead and tried to hook up the two windows 7 and xp laptop together, with the same settings, and i found that i could not see the shared folders on eachothers computer without changing my windows 7 pc to have the same gateway as ip address...
as per
Windows XP crossover to Windows 7
then magically we could see each others smb folders and ping and everything... yay, except when i immediately plug the ps2 into the cross over and try to set the pc gateway and ip the same, the gateway just goes to blank every time i hit accept and it wont keep it.... then i get 'no network access'
man this is sooo frustrating, i will borrow my girlfriends mom ps2 and try the same setup, im thinking either its my mod chip or maybe the ethernet port is detached partially from the mainboard, or maybe i just need to go play in traffic
i guess

Just a ask to you.
Have you put to your share-folder the "GUEST" & "everyone" person for sharing opened ??
And one thing can you try....
Go to your Network-connections in your PC and "disable" your "Wireless Network connection" (Not deleting, just right-klick and "disable").
Maybe your PC make problems with two connections (wireless & LAN).....
EDIT:
And here i see something.....
http://bayimg.com/EaIoNAaDH
set your last entry to "Allow windows to manage homegroup-connections"

actually, i added Guest to the group a long time ago, and i have also made sure everyone, and i even added network. then i gave them full access... but the underlying problem is that the ps2 has no network access according to: bayimg - image: ugh one millionitled.png - free uncensored image hosting (see where it says no network access....) so i suppose if its not on my network then how could it be a guest even? i dont think it can... it said no internet access when i had the windows xp computer hooked up so i know it would change to that if it were on the network.,.
another thing ive been thinking about lately, is on the site:
[How To] Boot Games Off Network (SMB) With Playstation 2 (PS2) Using OpenPS2Loader (A Novice Guide) « Welcome to the Underground.
the person with the crossover uses the setting for the lan card as ip xxx.xx.x.2.. with a
mask of the usual 255.255.255.0
the ps2 ip as xxx.xx.x.10
mask as usual
gateway as xxx.xx.x.1
then the pc address as xxx.xx.x.2 (same as card)
so then am i missing something here? cause if i had those numbers, then my ps2 gateway and pc are the same ip, they would both be a two at the end, or a 66 like in my config... but this guys is different numbers for the pc ip and ps2 gateway... (and he has a youtube vid which seems liike he got it working, and he sure wasnt using both ps2 gateway and pc as the same ones...)
btw thanks for the last setting there with it managin homegroup connections (although im not sure if this makes a difference, since i set it to work location so that there was no homegroup involved to add to the stress...)
i would also like to direct attention to this:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...-d6211ac63d31/
in which it says to use user accounts and turn on password protected sharing (in which i have a guest account, so that could work?)
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...2-647B417468A3
there is also a tidbit here.,..
If you would like to allow users access the computer from network with the Guest account in Windows 7, please check the related policy.
1. Launch gpedit.msc from Start Search box.
2. Locate to
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\
3. In the right pane, double-click “Access this computer from the network”. Click on “Add User or Group”, add “Guest” in the list.
4. Double-click on “Deny access to this computer from the network”. Select “Guest” and click Remove.
If the issue still occurs, please temporary disable firewall on the Windows 7 computer.
so i added guest to there...
ive also heard disable UAC,,,
so i add the guest account now, im gonna disable UAC, and set the settings the with the use passwords and whatnot, then im gonna try AGAIn after i restart,

yeah none of the above worked, i guess i borrow that other ps2, and if that doesnt work im gonna stick to my hard mod dvd+r scheme.
nothing lags with that setup anyways, it just aside from the psone, two, and soon to be 360 mods i had everything running off hard drives and memory cards... so it saddens me to have to use and take up the space of discs,, but i guess what can a person do.
ps2+opl+stress=**** it lets get the last 20 pokemon on my game, id probably be done it already if i wouldnt have spend 40 bucks on swap magic, 15 on two different cords, 23 on a router, and about 30 hours of my life wasted where i shoulda just given up and rolled a fatty.

ill report if it worked with the borrowed system, or what settings i needed to make it work, ina day or so when i dont feel like k-hole is the only solution
