You should get OPL 0.9 -- see the main thread in this section of the forum (sticky topics).
Which method are you using to load your games? Network? USB? Other?
PS3: Slim 320GB / CFW KMEAW 3.55 / multiMAN v04.xx.xx / blackb0x FTP Server v1.2 3.55 w/ FlashFXP 4.2.x
PS2: SLIM & PHAT / FreeMcBOOT w/ESR & OPL 9-r651 / SMS w/PSClient v1.3.1
PSP: PHAT / 5.00 M33-6

It might. Because OPL 9 has configurations in order to improve USB speeds.
But then again, it can also be that your USB HDD is heavly fragmented and needs to be defragged.
Plus from what I've gathered, that running ISO's from USB tends to be slow, because the PS2 is only running on a 1.0 USB speed. Seems that to run at better speeds is to run them through (SMB) Network.
I normally run my ISOs from network, where the games sit on my PC's HDDs (NTFS) at greater speeds, and connect my PS2 through my network hub using ethernet cable.
There are compatibility charts on OPL and USB and also Network to tell you which games run good or not depending the loading configuration.
