hi PSX-Scene members , as you know IDE HDDs are being superseded by SATA.

I was wondering if Open PS2 Loader would work with a SATA Enclosure (USB2.0) and SATA HDD ?

    any info is greatly appreciated

If done properly it will definitely work. OPL does not care, and normally does not even know, what the nature of the physical storage unit is as long as it responds properly to the commands of the interface used. So a drive connected to the USB port of the PS2 will work as long as it accepts standard USB 1.1 commands for formatting and access of FAT32 format.

And when connected by LAN port, via a PC or NAS unit, OPL does not even care about the format used on the disk, as long as it is made available to the network as a valid SMB fileshare. So the very same USB2.0 SATA enclosure can also be connected to a PC and formatted to NTFS or whatever, when the PS2 is to access it as an SMB fileshare.

Note also that if you have decent speed in your LAN, this will normally give better results than using the USB port of the PS2, due to the limitation of USB 1.1 in the PS2 USB implementation.

    Best regards: dlanor

hi dlanor excellent response and info this is great news. That takes a load off my mind , ie finding IDE HDDs and IDE Enclosures. I can now concentrate on other things now.
