Hi everyone, okay this is my third day of trying and my proud has ran out, I came here to seek some kind of help or at least someone who can point me in the right direction.
I'll give all the information (posible to much) and the backtrace of my tests...

    1) I purchase a used 70011 PS2 model, with chip (i dont know the model or version, possible Matrix Infinity).

    2) install FMBC with OPLv0.7. At that moment the router gave the ip to my pc (Windows 7) 192.168.0.100. Set the OPL's network settings as:
    PS2
    IP 192.168.0.111
    Mask 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.0.1

    PC
    192.168.0.100
    port 445
    share PS2SMB
    ....

    3) Share the a folder with a PES09 (converted with the usbutil2.0) with all the properties accordingly (everyone read, etc.)

    4) Exec the Start Network and the count down went from 5 to 2 really fast and then just freezed there.

    5) I looked at the router led in the ps2 entry, and it was not lighted. Tried to ping it, couldnt reach the ps2.

After this point, all the test i did were with an Static IP setted in windows.
All the things I tried were...

+Put the 192.168.0.111 ip to the dmz and forward the 445 port of my pc. Still the same.
+Read a post where maybe was a router problem and should try with lower ip addresses (192.168.0.4). Didnt work.
+Read a post where i should first "Activate" the online capability of the ps2 with the online startup disk. But as I wrote, i bought a used ps2, and didnt come with any online startup disk. Download the startupdisk v3.0 around the web (the one with 70mb), burn it in a dvd try to boot it but didnt load it. Used the usbutil2.1 to change it and OPL in USB Mode, and that way it worked. The problem was that after the first scene (the one with an asian cgi girl) and test, the legend was "Unable to find network adapter", please contact sony for tecnical support blah blah blah.

I search for a while and aparently the Online Startup Disk v3.0 was made only for the 5000x models, and thats maybe why that error appeared. Ok so i apparently i just needed to find the startupdisk v4.0. After a while, i managed to download a copy (size=300mb aprox) but of course, i couldt boot it. Tried the usbUtil2.1 and OPL but the software hangs up in the loading bar (its a bar made of a line of blue squares columns).

After searching looking in the network site of playstation.com the faq told that there were a work around, use a game with multiplayer and the connection configuration will show up then. Ok, i didnt have any game, but a friend borrow me his backup copy of ford vs fiat (I dont remember the name, and im currently at work. But I'm sure the name has the word Ford in it). Boot the game (with the matrix) went to multiplayer and then start the network configuration.
Ethernet/xxxx(dont remember the option, but it is the only one)
Manual IP (set 192.168.0.111 ip, 255.255.255.0 mask and 192.168.0.1 as gateway)
Manual dns (open dns 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)
    And then Test Connection.
After a while "Connection Timed out".
I had my ps2 conected to my router, and my cable modem connection was working. I did have internet in my PC.
I also tried Ip AUTO and Dns AUTO, but got the same results.
The weard thing is that after that (i meant the failed tests), the led of the router for my ps2 entry was on but because i didnt pass the test, it wont let me save those configuration in the memory card.

I'm currently trying to get my hands on the Star Wars Battlefront 1. Apparently with this game you first can save your network config first and then run the connection test.

At that moment, as I reached the end of the street going that way i tried these other things:

    *************** Cross over cable
I connected my ps2 with my pc (first i disconnect my pc from the router, so I just have a PC-PS2 pure lan connection). In windows set a static ip and a submask (192.168.0.4, 255.255.255.0). But of course there wasn't a way to Active the Local Area Connection.
Turned on the ps2, boot the OPLv0.7 set the network settings, and start network. When again the count down almost jumped from 5 to 2. I checked my lan connection but there wasnt any option to activate the Local Area Connection.

    *************** Trying OPL v0.6
I download the 0.6 version, and did all the same steps as explained above (router connection, and cross over), tough didnt work either, the result were differents.

    ** Router Connection
I made all the standard config, and start the network, this time the count down was steadily decresing from 4 to 1 and freezed there, BUT the led for ps2 entry in the route was on this time.
    ** Cross over Cable
Again the count down went from 4 to 1. I checked my lan connection and this time the option to activate the Local Area Connection appeared. I activated, but didnt make any difference (Also tried the "Repair Connection").

************** Trying to turn of the mod Chip
I read somewhere that maybe the chips is the one fu**ing the things up, so i want to disable it, but I don't know how... Tried holding Start and turning on the PS2 but there wanst any disable message (Where is located that disabled message by the way), nor Pressing Circle and Triangle. Sadly I don't know what model or version my chips, or a way to know it.

In none of this test, I could ping the PS2. My opinion is that there is something with the internal network adapter of my ps2 OR the startup disk v4.0 really does do some "Activation" Process in the ps2 network capabilities.
Altough I talked with a friend who has the 9000x model, and he didnt install any startup disk, he just bought the ps2, plug it in the wall, booted the ulaunch from a dvd, run the OPL v0.7, set the network settings, start the network and worked just fine.

Thanks for anyone who took his time to read this.

Any help or advice is appreciate it.

Ok, after hours of trying and getting a game where i cant user the network utility for the ps2, i've got my diagnosis...

Apparently its all the modchip's fault. When i'm trying to do a test, in this networks utility software, its said i didnt have any ethernet cable connected, but I did... I did !!

I've got the Messiah or the Mars Pro, 'cause the Start to disable, or the Circle+Triangle or the Circle+Triangle+Square+Cross doesnt work. For this models apparently i've got to press restart two times for disabled it, but it didnt work either. Maybe was a dark and evil clone of that models...

    Anyway...
    Im officially closing this topic.

To Sum up and in my opinion after several test.
The problems its because my mod chip (Not matrix nor its clones) block the network properties of the ps2

Have you tried wit the IP of 192.168.0.101 ensted of 192.168.0.111 that is usually the proper IP routing the normal router sends out for multiple connections goes from 100 then 101 then 102 and so on

I noticed you said you are using a crossover cable. Change your Gateway IP (On your PS2 config) to that of your PC.

    PC
    --
Set a static IP (192.168.0.100 in your case), subnet 255.255.255.0, leave gateway blank.

    PS2
    ---
    IP : 192.168.0.111
    subnet : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : PC's IP (192.168.0.100 in your setup)

Altough i didnt specified it, i did the test correctly with the crossover cable, and several ip range try outs. The problem in all the tests were always the same, i couldn't even connect with my router or pc (Any ping test would fail). Was like the inner ps2's ethernet adapter was broken or something was interfiering with the lan connections. thus my diagnosis.

    Thanks anyway for your advices

How did you ping the PS2? The PS2 won't echo pings without any special software that does that.

In fact, how the PS2's entire hardware behaves depends on the software that controls it (E.g. the USB ports won't enumerate any connected USB devices by themselves without a game loading USB drivers that came with the game first...).

Your best bet to test your NA is to try to connect to an online server in an online game.
And yes, some modchips do conflict with some homebrew software, so you should disable it when running OPL.

FYI: The Network Adaptor Setup discs are not required to use OPL. They're only required to set up a configuration that'll be used by all SCE-licensed network-enabled games.

As for your modchip, I suppose that you could try to disable it with the methods used by other known modchips.... (Mine was an "unknown" too, but I found that it responds similarly to a M2 chip... so clicking the power button twice disables my chip). So try clicking your power button twice.

BTW Try to disable any firewall software you might have.

That's right, but i didnt explained well.

I have a friend (the one with the 9000x model) and when he run the OPL and the countdown pass trought the number 2 he can perfectly ping his ps2 in the lan (the ps2 connected in the router) from his pc, and he didnt ran any special program nor the network utility.
So possible, the OPL work as a network software and does the socket connection or whatever the ps2 standar communication protocol is. Same when you run the network utility, in all the test I did, even when the led in the router was on por the ps2 entry, I couldnt pinging it ever, meaning that was never able to properly connect the ps2 to the router or PC...
