OPL 0.9 in "HIGH DEFINITION"with DTV & VGA video-output in "Display Settings". Sounds Cool and can come true....
Hi Everyone. First of all I want to say “thank you” to those people ( Coders):
“crazyc, ifcaro, izdubar, jimmikaelkael, Polo35, volca”.
Thank you guys for all your hard work, for sleepless nights, for everything you do “possible and impossible”in order to create for us “usual PS2-users”--- nice and very handy piece of software which is called “OPL”.
Now back to the reason why I started this thread.
We have two dates which are very important for PlayStation 2 Users.
It is 2002 and 2006 years.
In 2002 started LinuxKit for PS2.
In 2006 started Xploder HDTV Player for PS2.
You will ask me: How its related and what does this mean?
And I will answer: When those two products came out, we found out that “PlayStation 2” is “HIGH DEFINITION-Capable”. This moment is very important here. PS2 can Output DTV and VGA.
Here is the List of Resolutions which PS2 supports in VGA mode:
RESOLUTION-------------HORIZONTAL SYNCHRONIZATION----------------VERTICAL SYNCHRONIZATION
640*480----------------------------31,6 Khz---------------------------------------------60 Hz
640*480----------------------------37,8 Khz---------------------------------------------72 Hz
640*480----------------------------37,5 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz
640*480---------------------------- ? Khz-------------------------------------------- 85 Hz
800*600----------------------------35,1 Khz---------------------------------------------56 Hz
800*600----------------------------37,8 Khz---------------------------------------------60 Hz
800*600----------------------------48,0 Khz---------------------------------------------72 Hz
800*600----------------------------46,9 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz
800*600---------------------------- ? Khz-------------------------------------------- 85 Hz
1024*768----------------------------48,5 Khz----------------------------------------------60 Hz
1024*768-----------------------------56,8 Khz---------------------------------------------70 Hz
1024*768-----------------------------60,0 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz
1024*768----------------------------- ? Khz----------------------------------------------85 Hz
1280*1024----------------------------64,1 Khz---------------------------------------------60 Hz
1280*1024----------------------------80,0 Khz---------------------------------------------75 Hz
Here are Resolutions which PS2 supports in DTV mode:
480p
576p
720p
1080i
How can we benefit from all this information?
Very simple.
We can add support for full range of DTV and VGA resolutions in Display Settings of OPL 0.9 .
If we will do this, in such way we will satisfy every PS2-User does not matter which type of Video Cable does he use with OPL (composite, svideo, scart, component, PS2 VGA Cable ).
I think that adding DTV and VGA to OPL not just very important but also “just essential” because we have ability to output PS2 games in “Progressive Scan”mode and in “RGB-Color Space”.
A lot of games can work in “Progressive Scan”even though they do not have one from game-developer.
And also some amount of games can output in “High Definition”.
So the question is:
Can Developers of “OPL”to add support For DTV and VGA in Display Settings when Next version of “OPL” will be released?
If they could, it would be really nice because OPL would become even more popular.
A lot of users now use VGA Cable with their ps2.
Lately I also created “The Best PS2 VGA Cable”.
The Problem is that each time I want to use OPL , I also have to use GSMode Selector because PS2 itself can not generate DTV and VGA.
It would be so much easier for me and majority of other PS2 users if it could be possible to use only OPL if you want to output game in DTV or VGA -mode.
I have visited a lot of Forums in internet and a lot of users who use their PS2 connected through VGA to Monitor ---just shouting that it could be nice to have OPL with DTV and VGA videooutput.
And Guys , Seriously, How can we ignore that ps2 can output DTV and VGA?
When I created My PS2 VGA Cable and tested games---I was amazed.
Games in VGA , even if it works in 640*480@60Hz look “AWESOME”.
You have a feeling that you playing completely new game , though you played it already not just once.
And I know the reason for that:
1.Progressive Scan all the time;
2.RGB Color Space;
3.VGA (D-Sub) standard itself gives sharpness, very high saturation, vividness and high quality on the screen.
Colors on the screen are so alive and textures look so naturally that you can not believe that it possible for PS2 Game to look so nice. And you starting to ask yourself why you did not start to use your PS2 with your Monitor earlier ? Why you lost so many time?
Guys , you just have to try to connect your PS2 to Computer Monitor.
Once you will see picture quality—I am sure 100% you will never switch back....
The procedure for DTV or VGA to be activated in OPL is very simple:
1.Go in OPL to Display Settings;
2.Choose “Video-Cable” you use ---composite--svideo-scart--component--PS2 VGA Cable;
3.Choose “Display Device” you use—SDTV—HDTV---MONITOR;
4.Select “Resolution”---480/576i, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 640*480, 800*600, 1024*768, 1280*1024;
5.Save it to mc0:/OPL as videooutput.cfg .
So now at each startup of PS2 you will have the required Video-mode generated by OPL.
If OPL looks to mc0:/OPL and does not find file videooutput.cfg then it outputs standard definition signal . If it finds file then OPL outputs video-signal accordingly to what is written there.
Actually it is very nice to use PS2 in High Definition because every homebrew can choose its own
video-output requirement---and HDTV or MONITOR can accept and show every video resolution from
range which is PS2 is capable to output.
Also what is the most important about all of this is that new homebrews which will be created in future,
can be created by developers with the thought that PS2 is “HIGH DEFINITION CAPABLE”.
Here I am adding the pictures of my PS2 VGA Cable I created....
