I can confirm that FFX and DQ8 runs on my SMB/Windows XP-rig without a single lag in FMV.

I had however big problems with lag on both Win Vista and Win 7 due to Windows automatically searching for an internet connection each 5 minutes or so.
I was unable to turn this function off despite hours of trial and error.
The solution was to install Win XP.
    PS2 Slim SCPH-77004 with FMCB 1.8
    (Modded with Matrix Infinity)
    Running OPL 0.8
SMB w/ crossed cable in Windows XP with a computer dedicated to only PS2-loading.
    HDD: Samsung G3 1TB
TOTALLY LAG FREE - BOTH IN-GAME AND FMV.

wow, that's news to me. I am using windows 7 64-bit and both two games lag terribly on smb. I am also using an external drive connected to the pc. This might have been contributing to the lag too. I have never imagined that os would be a bottle-neck.

Yes. I think Iīm pretty good on managing computers and have many years of windows/pc experience.
But this function was impossible to narrow down on vista/win 7. There were some options that should have done the trick, but it didnīt help.
It was very sneaky, but every 5 minutes or so, you could see the LAN/network icon in the corner begin to rotate and search for an internet connection...and everytime it did make the FMV lag.
Installing Windows XP was the solution.

I wonder if that's being caused by Win7 constantly searching for wireless and/or bluetooth devices and networks -- maybe even that infernal Homegroup crapola? My brother's Dell core 2 duo laptop with Win7 Ultimate connects to my router via wireless. After the DHCP lease expires, it won't reconnect and renew the IP unless the router is reset. Really annoying. Google-fu turned up Homegroup as the likely culprit and, knowing Microsoft, they won't fix it until May/June when SP2 is rumored to be deployed. Sick of him resetting the router and he won't let me try disabling Homegroup ...

If the game works on IHD then their is no lag make sure to get the right network adapter for your type I think but not sure the 10000 models are not the same as your PS2
The internal hard drive runs even faster then the DVD drive so it is more likely that you may have to slow down a game to get it to work then have skipping FMV

And don't forget to get a Hard drive or have one already for the PS2

one that looks like this but be careful their are fakes around that do work but have no network port to connect to internet and make putting games on the IHD hard to do
    unless you have an en-closer
