My first post here so please be gentle. Before I go on further there is some back story that I need to tell.

I'm trying to play games using OPL and a crossover cable connected to a laptop since it gives the best performance barring an Internal HDD. Since my laptop has been giving me problems, I decided to use my sister's laptop to do a test run.

Following the guide I've set the PS2's IP to 192.168.1.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and GW 192.168.1.2 and the laptop's IP to 192.168.1.2.

At first when I accessed the Network item on the OPL menu, the Network loading number jumps from 5, to 2 and then freezes at 1. I did some searching on this forum and figured out that it may be the modchip. I disabled it (double tapping the power button) and it worked like a charm. I can play games with minimal stuttering.

I played for a few hours until I was satisfied that it had no problems before I unplugged the crossover cable from my sister's laptop and connected it to mine, using the exact settings as my sister's laptop.

I disabled the modchip, accessed the network games option, the network loading number jumps from 5 to 2 to 1 but this time, instead of loading the games list, the number freezes at 1, as if the modchip wasn't disabled.

I made sure the modchip was properly disabled but it still freezes at one. Giving up, I re-hook it to my sister's laptop and to my surprise, it works perfectly.

I suspect that it's my laptop but I don't know what exactly is causing it. Can anyone give me a hand?

What OS are you running on your laptop? Is it different from your sister's?
Have you made sure that all the settings on your laptop are exactly the same as your sister's? A difference in network configs will cause this.

Both laptops are running on XP. The only difference that I can see between my sister's laptop and mine is that mine has IPv6 while my sister doesn't. That and the folder name on my laptop is different, eventhough the share name is the same, PS2SMB.

Maybe the following link will help you: http://psx-scene.com/forums/showpost...7&postcount=19 (OPL "network" smb issues NO ITEMS)

If not, then verify that the IP address is right by going to run>ipconfig.

so i have no choice but to compile OPL fetch ul.cfg in mc0 and it works.

Well did some more tests. I find that when I plug my cable to my sister's laptop, to see if I can see the PS2SMB folder on mine, I can only get 10MBPs connection. When I run an FTP using uLaunchELF, when I ping the PS2 address I get request timeouts on the first connection but it is resolved if I repair the connection. Connection with the PS2 is 100MBPs.

I have one more thing to try and that is connecting to the PS2 with my Laptop in Safe Mode with Networking Enabled to see if it's any program running on my laptop that is interfering with the connection. Also, should I post a screenshot of the IPCONFIG result screen?

Your laptop is not very old right? I wonder why it operates in 10Mbps mode when you connect your sister's laptop to yours...

It's not really normal if you have to "repair" your connection to be able to access your PS2.

Disable any firewall software that you have installed.... and you may want to update your network adaptor software if it's a software issue on your laptop.

What Service Pack level is your Windows XP installation at?
