nother problem we would then encounter if we introduce compression is that the good compressors/fast decompressors (LZO for example) use the GPL license, which is incompatible with mcemu's AFL licence.
afaik the GPL license covers the source code, but not the algorithm. or am i wrong?

if you reimplement it, following the specifications - no problems there.

    i think LZSS / SLZ might be good http://michael.dipperstein.com/lzss/ ; http://www.gamedev.net/reference/art...article294.asp )

btw tri-ace uses this algorithm in almost every game. (on psp, ps2 and also in new star ocean on xbox360 - i guess it scales nicely )

the compression is not too tight, but it does the job. and it has very low decompression requirements (memory and cpu-wise).

the question is - which chip will decompress? i'm guessing that iop will have to do it. and it's not really a number crunching rocket ;-) so such an algorithm should do the job.

Anyway, even if they did, we could have just changed the disc layout XD
and press the discs again? i'm talking about the ps3 - no burned discs here. sony would eventually come out on top with their firmware upgrades.

Hence, even if we were to build a working CDVDMAN system with compression, we would not be able to legally distribute it unless we get the licensing issues resolved. There ARE compressors/decompressors out there that are licensed under AFL, but they do not seem to be as good as LZO. LZO had a compression of around 30%, which is considered high(To me at least);Unless there is a better compressor/decompressor. What we need is one that has a high compression ratio, and fast decompression times.

Special licenses for commercial and other applications which
are not willing to accept the GNU General Public License
are available by contacting the author.
There are also a lot of other reasonable compression algorithms (mostly variations of Lempel-Ziv), so if you program it himself, you will not depend on license.

no sony and sega both signed a contract that would enable dreamcast games like sonic adventure to be purchased on the "psn store" for the ps3
and the ps3 has the power to play dreamcast games!
this was leaked yesterday as rumored news on sites suchas ps3news.com and dcemu.com

even ps2 games as downloads were even in the mix

This is offtop, but they are likely changed a little and recompiled for PS3.

    Very nice!

I tested my 200GB once again with the same game i know works and i have mixed results....but it is good!

I first tested the OpenUsbLd_0.41 version and it did in fact read the HDD and even loaded the game, but it only blakscreens.

Contra Shattered Soldier: Pink > Green > Pink > black.....and freezes

Next i tested the OpenUsbLd_USBA_0.41 version and it loaded AND played the game!

Contra Shattered Soldier: Pink > Green > Pink > black.....WORKS!

also tested the themes and all works very well......very well done guys!

I'll start adding more games to all my HDDs and post results soon.

    Theme suggestions:
I also noticed there is a font.raw, is it possible to allow our skins to also use a font file?

Can we have 3 different icons for the Games USB, Games HDD and the Apps? I can make them for the default if you want.

I know its not an important issue for the skins , but if it doesnt interfer with any development and its not time consuming, it would great for these changes.

Thanks for the text color change......

This CDVDMAN is incomplete and needs some work.
I'm somewhat confused about the ISO image reading. Do both projects read ISO images as long as they don't exceed the FAT 32 file size limit?

I want to provide test results that are accurate, to avoid confusion.

they read isos in usb advance format, which is an iso split into 1gb chunks and with a special name
