My linux based NAS doesn't seem to support GUEST with no password. A few versions ago I finally tracked down why it wouldn't even list games, but I had to hack in password support & couldn't get it working in game.

I can grab some logs if you think it would help.
plaintext as well as encrypted password for LM & NTLM authentification is already implemented into smbman module, and just needs to be used by the GUI.
For ingame support, we'll need a special code for authentification on EE, as having DES & MD4 on IOP will not help to keep a light SMB core, but that will come soon.
Where does OPL save it's configuration by default ? I noticed 2 possible locations , OPL folder or SYS-CONF . Which is better ?
have anyone managed to successfully run MGS2 Substance (not MGS3 Subsistence) with any version of OPL via USB?
The only version of MGS2 that works for me is the original MGS2 Sons of Liberty and only NTSC version of it. PAL MGS2 SoL and NTSC MGS2 Substance don't work - black screen. Didn't try PAL Substance though....
open ps2 loader v7 does not play any games i put on my usb: disgaea 2,digimon world data squad,ff x-2, persona 4, marvel ultimate alliance i tried them with usbloader 0.2/3 and they worked fine so what have i done wrong for them not to work on opl?
It's your chip.

disgaea confirmed working with r 359 smb mode thx alot for the IOP memory fix
jimmikaelkael thx I will be checking other games that didn't work before
No games when using CD or DVD iso using SMB
No games when using CD or DVD iso using SMB –
I've been testing r359 and noticed that when I create CD or DVD directories and put ISO games under them no games are displayed in Network Games section. If I rename/delete those folders everything works fine.
Samba log displays the following error:

I'm using a WD MyBook WII NAS running Linux.
One of many differences between the old USBLoader and the new "Open PS2 Loader" is that the latter uses a special speedup method which ignores checking the sector allocation of individual sectors, and instead relies on all sectors of each file following in consecutive order from its first sector, which is the only sector of each file whose allocation is checked in the FAT32 allocation tables by the new USB core of OPL.

If you have not taken any special precautions agains fragmentation, then it is almost certainly such fragmentation that is causing your problem, so you need to defragment that USB drive in order to use it with OPL.
The easy way to do this, without needing special software, is to copy all of the USB drive's content to a PC HDD, then reformat the USB drive fully to FAT32 (NOT quick format) and then copy the original contents back again. This should ensure that all the part files are stored without fragmentation. And then the games should work in OPL, assuming they were correctly installed originally of course, which should be the case if they worked in the old USBLD.
Having only had a problem with symptoms that are the reverse of the ones under discussion is not a good basis for giving advice on how to cope with those.

And in any case the modchip 'allergy' only applied to OPL v0.5 and OPL v0.6, but not OPL v0.7
In fact eliminating this modchip 'allergy' was the main motivation behind the release of v0.7
As for using compatibility options for 'his case', this first requires us to identify that 'case' as something for which a specific option exists, and that identification has not been done.

its not my chip because i dont use a chip, i use swapmagic the game comes up on the usb games list and when i load them black screen for 20 mins
