The following was a PM that I sent to a youtube user who makes tutorials about hacking the ps2.

Hello, let me start off by saying that I really enjoy watching your tutorials and that they are a big help to people who want to get the most out of their PS2.

I have PM'd you because I cannot for the life of me get OPL to recognize my games in my External HDD or my Computer. I have a crossover ethernet cable so i basically took my laptop and ps2 and plugged them in together. So i get a good sign when my ps2 changes its IP address by itself from when I had it connected to my router (192.168.15.10) to (192.168.0.10), so that should rule out a faulty network adapter (I think), I also changed my computers IP to 192.168.0.2 and thats pretty much all I changed in terms of network settings. Then I made my External HDD which was plugged into my computer into a share folder and changed all of the sharing options just like you did in the video. So after I do all of that I restart my PS2 just out of habit and then I go to the OPL in the menu then I go to the load network games tab, the circle spins or it counts down (depending on which version of OPL I tried) and nothing ****ing pops up no games load nothing is there, I have installed the games to my HDD using USBextreme and I have also ripped ISO's onto my HDD for OPL V0.8. This is driving me insane, I have done everything in your videos from the guides on psx-scene.com perfectly how on earth can this not be working? There's no way that it can be a "faulty" HDD, I just tried it on my brand new gaming computer and got the same exact result! Is there something that I should be doing with my HDD that you forgot to mention? Was my Ps2 made after 2008 even though the model number says otherwise? I don't know I am just really frustrated and I would really appreciate your help on this if you can

Likewise if anyone here can help out that would be awesome

Thats a problem right there, as the PS2 does NOT automatically change its IP, you have to assign it a static IP in the CONFIG.DAT file. Your router may display an automatically assigned IP to the PS2, but if the static IP is not assigned in a config file, it will not connect. You also have to define the GW (gateway IP) of either the router or PC, whichever your connected to.

you can assign the static IP with uLaunchELF's Network configuration screen or from OPL's network configuration screen, as they share the same config file.

I dont know if you read this page or not, so heres a link to the OPL network settings page:

So this is my current setup with my Ps2 and PC via crossover cable.

So I have a static IP setup in my computer like this

    IP Address: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet mask: 255...
    Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
    DNS: 192.168.0.1

And for my Ps2 it looks like this...

    IP Address: 192.168.0.2
    Subnet mask: 255...
    Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

I don't know what other changes I could make from here. I'm fairly certain I did it right. The circle icon in the bottom right corner of the screen keeps spinning every 3 seconds like it wants to connect.

Ok, your OPL config settings look ok, but now what about the other settings, such as......
    Port: 445
    Share: PS2SMB
    User: GUEST
    Password:

These also must be configured and match what set in the PC.

Set a share folder on the PC with the same name as is in the OPL config file. If you dont have a username/password set for shares, leave it as is.

Next you must have the games in the correct form as either USB Extreme format installed (ul) or as an ISO. If as an ISO , the games must be in the correct folder and properly named as described in the User Guides.

All of these MUST be correct or you will not see the games listed, even if you do get the IP stuff right and it connects. You say the 'loading icon' spins every 3 seconds, then you are in fact connected correctly to the PC. Thats an indication it has connected and OPL has an automatic refresh, thats why you see the icon spin every 3 secs.

Another thing is, if all your games are in the ISO format and in the correct folders, all named properly, try putting a blank ul.cfg file in there with the 2 folders CD and DVD.

    thats what i thought

So I put that file into my folder and it still doesn't show up on my PS2. I double checked the game to make sure that it was in the correct format and still no luck. I double checked the sharefolder names to make sure that they matched, i made sure that "everyone" had only read-only permissions on PS2SMB. I log into my computer with a user name and password, should I edit that info to the OPL and see if that does anything?

If PC IP Address and Default Gateway are the same, then blank the Default Gateway on your PC as it'll cause connection problems if you plan to play online games, stream radio / weather in Argon
or debug in ps2rd, for me having them both manually set to 192.168.0.1 it kicked me off my wireless shared internet connection until I turned the ps2 off, it doesn't need to be set since it's using the PC IP address to also set the Gateway address, don't touch your ps2 ipconfig.dat setup though that's correct.
