ok i guess i know what you mean doesn't sound like any problems but i still get nothing appearing on the ps2 side no games show up

i don't know if it has to do with the ip addresses or port being 445

my share folder is in share documents/PS2SMB/DVD/SLPS_255.31.SEED.iso

PS2SMB is setup to share properly
-i open properties on the PS2SMB folder then go to share options and set the share folder to PS2SMB

so i'm really confuzed as to what to do.

the game will not show up at all

i guess i don't understand the ip addresses for both the ps2 and pc
i understand that both the systems are sapose to have there own ip address but don't know if i have the correct ip's

Yes, it is very important to have the correct IPs for each device in a Network.

In OPL, you assign a Static IP for the PS2:

    -PS2 -
IP: 192.168.1.104 You change these to any number NOT in use on your Network LAN
Mask: 255.255.255.0 This is the subnet mask for your network
GW: 192.168.1.1 Change this to the IP for your router (or PC's IP if directly connected with a crossover)
Now to find out what your PC's IP is, do this:
    -goto START button
    -RUN
-type in CMD and hit enter key

In the Command window that opens, just type ipconfig and hit the enter key.

    - PC -
IP: 192.168.1.200 Change this to the IP of your PC
Port: 445 This is the default port used by SMB protocol, but you can assign a different one if it is already used by another PC program.
Share: PS2SMB This is the name you use for the folder/drive sharename on your PC. (they MUST match)
A virtual Keyboard will open to allow you to input a sharename.

User: GUEST Change this if your PC requires a username for access, otherwise leave as GUEST
Password: Set your password if your username requires it, otherwise leave blank

ok so how would i find the ip of the ps2?

the asus netbook is not ever connected to internet on the ethernet side

so what your saying is find the ps2's ip address then save my opl settings then press enter, on the pc side just goto the command window and type ipconfig which i have before and when the ethernet was set to automatic i got all kinds of differant numbers so i just set it to manual and type in a number

the manual setting was much nicer since i would get a connection right away unlike the automatic one that just gave me limited axcess

thank you JNABK for your help i still a little confuzed but i will get it some time

i'm @ my grandma's so i will get back with it maybe tomarrow although i might be able to bring it here later to test

No, you cant find the PS2's IP from the PC the same way as you do for the PC's IP. You manually set an IP number by typing in OPL's Network Settings screen:
    -PS2 -
IP: 192.168.1.104 You change these to any number NOT in use on your Network LAN
you change those numbers in red to one that is not the same as your PC, router or another PC/console that has an IP in your home network setup. The last set of digits 104 is what needs to be different, the first 3 should be the same.

Yes, by setting a manual IP to your PC, you gave it a Static IP. Static IPs wont change, but automatic IPs do, as the router or DNS server app assigns it one on each device startup and the first device started gets the first available IP in its listings.

Automatic IP - Set by your router's DNS and may change on PC startups
Static IP - set manually by you to stay as the same IP

    -sub-255.255.255.0
    -gateway- what should this be

    pc
    -ip-192.168.1.105
    -sub-255.255.255.0
    -gateway-blank

Everything looks good if your network is 192.168.1.xxx and not 192.168.0.xxx

    ps2
    -ip- 192.168.1.104
    -sub-255.255.255.0
-gateway- what should this be If your connected directly from PS2 to PC with a cable put 192.168.1.105 If your connected PS2 to router to PC put 192.168.1.1

    pc
    -ip-192.168.1.105
    -sub-255.255.255.0
-gateway-blank If your connected directly from PS2 to PC that is fine If your connected PS2 to router to PC put 192.168.1.1

you been very helpful to me, one final thing would be what if those numbers were made up and if so why wouldn't the instructions say make up the numbers?

but are the ps2 ip address all just made up and then use the start menu to run to cmd to ipconfig to find the pc's ip address?

No, not quite "made up". First thing is you want to know the IP address of your PC or Router, as that is what makes up your "LAN", as it is the device that controls the Network traffic.

Typically a "Default IP" for a LAN (Local Area Network) is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, but to know for certain you use the PCs cmd to see what is being used by the PC. This also displays the actual PC's IP and you know not to use the exact same digits for the PS2.

Since the PS2 is not capable of self assigning an IP address, you MUST assign it Static in a configuration file, OPL provides that in its Settings screen.

So if your PC is 192.168.0.101, then you can use 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.100 or 192.168.0.102 to 192.168.0.254 for your PS2's IP.

If you have other PCs in your network LAN, then their IPs must also not be used for the PS2 or each other. The first 3 ocets make up your Network's identification to each PC or console that connects to your LAN, so the last ocet defines each PC/console individually.

Its like 192.168.0 is the street and .101 is your house address number.

Hope that helps you a little bit to understand.

Look at my cmd picture i posted a few posts back, i use a router and the router controls the IP's traffic as a Gateway between each connected PC or console. My router is pre-configured as 192.168.1.1 and its starting IP number it assigns is 192.168.1.101 to the first connected PC that it detects. So if you turn on 3 PCs at once, the first will be 192.168.1.101, the second 192.168.1.102, the 3rd 192.168.1.103.

I have several PCs and several consoles that connect thru the router and i set some to Static so they are always the same and i set them higher than what the router will auto-assign any other PC/console. I set all the console to 192.168.1.200 or higher, as i know there isnt enough PCs to ever get that high in an auto-assigned IP number.

When you turn off your PC, its IP is now available to the router to re-assign the next one it detects is connected when you turn on another PC or console that is set for automatic IP. So you cant just 'set any number', you must be sure it wont get used by another connected device and make it static.
