I can't get Open PS2 Loader 0.9 to save my configuration files for individual games. Why isn't it working on this version of the game? I can save the setting in version 0.8 but when I load 0.9 it doesn't even apply those settings. What can I do to get it working?

0.8 saves the game settings on the memory card
0.9 saves the game settings on the device from which you play the game

If it's internal HDD,you have to create OPL partition on it.
If it's ETH,you have to allow writing to the share folder, not just read.
If it's USB,you are not supposed to do anything,OPL will create the needed folder.

Thank you for the information. I created an OPL partition and now it saves the settings.

Sorry, excuse me but do you mean a partition or is it really a directory or folder? How do you create an OPL "partition"? What software do you use? If it's a partition, how big does it need to be and what file system should it use?

Also shouldn't the program warn you the save location does not exist, and not just exit? Just saying...

Yes,you have to create a partition not folder and you can create it with uLaunchELF
    Official OPLv0.8 User Guides
The CFG folder is create automatically once OPL see that the OPL partition exist

Ok, I found this information which seems detailed enough...

    Create a partition
    Run uLaunchELF
Goto FileBrowser > MISC > HDDmanager (wait for HDD module to load if HDD isnt started already)
Press R1 and a context menu will open
Select Create , press O and a virtual keyboard will open, input the name OPL, select OK and press O
a partition size selection menu will open. Choose from 128MB to 128GB by pressing <L R>
Now give some thought before setting the partition size, the maximum amount of games that can be listed on a HDD is 256 and if you saved a 8MB VMC for each game, then 2GB would be the Max size for VMC use , but now consider if your going to use ART and Themes from the HDD too. You will need to look at how much space all your Art/Themes use and add that amount to make sure your partition will have enough space for all your needs.
Press once you have chosen the partition size you want and a confirmation box will open, press O on OK to begin creating the partition.
You will see +OPL listed once the process is completed.

    Copy folder to the partition
To copy your ART folder, just use FileBrowser > hdd0:/ and you will see the +OPL listed there to copy it into.
The VMC folder will be created there by OPL when you create a VMC file from the HDD Games list or you can create it if you want with uLE, while your in the partition.

However, one more question, on my Windows, Linux, or Macintosh machines, creating or changing partitions can mean the death/erasing of all data and necessitate the recreation of any other already existing partitions. That is not the case here? Or is it? In other words, will I need to reload all my games again if I do this? Are there any other side effects?

since all games are installed to separate partitions no their is no side effect the only real problem with it is OPL loads faster if partition is at top of HD if you want you can even start with smaller size it can be expanded with uLE

You must have space to make it thou

    V10 SCPH-50001 with Network adapter SCPH-10281 500 G HD
    PSP 3000 9G 6.20 PRO CFW Perm
Unofficial FMCB v1.8C OPL self compiled HD and SMB preferred
Is how all good gaming systems came to be

The case on PS2 hdd is not the same as the above, every time you install a game you are creating new partition so creating new partition will not do anything bad...it's almost like you are trying to install another game

Ok, so I created the partition as "OPL" and it showed up on the partition list as "+OPL" like it was supposed to. Then I went into Open PS2 Loader and tried to change the setting for one game. It saved the setting and it took effect, but...
It seems to have effected all the games.
If I go back and look at the settings, it's not there, but it's working.
I looked at the new partition in uLaunchELF, and it only has two empty folders named CFG and VMC??
What the ____? Confused and irked.

If you still have your OPL 0.8 config files on memory card, download OPLCONVERT from here ...

    https://bitbucket.org/ifcaro/open-ps2-loader/downloads

It's a JAVA-based conversion tool and the directions in the README are a no-brainer. Once it parses an old OPL 0.8 config file (i.e. conf_compatibility.cfg, conf_vmc.cfg, conf_dnas.cfg), it'll automatically create few folders (i.e. HDD, USB, ETH) which contain the settings for all the games you've ever played by those methods. Browse to the tool's HDD folder, and copy all the .cfg files to your USB stick. From there, stick the USB stick back into your PS2, run uLE, and paste those CFG files into the +OPL/CFG folder on your PS2's HDD. Done deal - your settings for all your games have been preserved and merged.
