    Hello!

First of all: thank you very much guys for this awesome work you are doing with that whole ps2 stuff

I'm new to this forum, I just got freemcboot and opl working on my slim ps2 and I've got two questions.

The first one is the following: I'd like to share the games on my winchester through a wlan router which has a usb port. So I just plug the winchester to that usb port and let the router share it on the network which has the ps2 on it. I want it that way because I don't want to always turn on my lapotop when I' playing on my ps2. So is it possible?

The second: when I load the games directly from the winchester plugged to the ps2 the videos stutter (in DQVIII for example). Is it because of the limitations of the usb 1.1 the ps2 has or did I miss something?

Sorry for my bad english and thank you for your answers in advance!

USB1.1 is very slow and causes stuttering in a lot of games' videos. I'd suggest either using wired ethernet (get a $10 switch?), getting a wireless bridge, or...something to connect your PS2 via a higher bandwidth connection.

I finished DQ8 quite a while ago and haven't picked it up again since, so I don't know how compatibility is with it personally. Also, you don't mention which version of OPL you're using, so it would be hard for me to check.

edit: Using 0.7 rev455 over 100Mbps ethernet the FMVs freeze for a few seconds and stutter during screen transitions. I'm not sure if the eagles soaring in the intro loop is in-game or FMV, but it plays smoothly. I didn't test any compatibility modes.

    Thanks for the answer.

I use OPL v0.7 but I think I don't use any rev. I haven't dig myself in that rev thing and I don't know too much about it. But I look at the threads in connection with that

So do you think that opl would load the games on a winchester connected to a router?

In DQ8 the eagle part is smooth, the problems start after you give yourself a name and the first fmv starts. Th truth is that I had problems with the Level5 logo before the title screen. I had the same video issues with Burnout 3 and Revenge too. In Burnout 3 there is a video in the background of the main menu and it stutters too. I tried DQ8 through network and that was way better so I thought that the USB is the problem and I wanted to be sure about it

Thank you again for the answer!

Undoubtly ethernet mode is faster than USB.

It has also less limitation (in particular it doesn't need to stick to fat32 fs, so using ext/hpfs/ntfs you can store and use directly the ISO games).

Concerning your question, ethernet mode use the CIFS/SAMBA protocol. So your "router" have to support it and then it should be ok.

CIFS is the common windows share protocol for info.

And usually simple router don't support it. What model is it ?

    According to this:

How to apply the Network Sharing Function on TL-WR1043ND? - FAQ

It looks like standard SMB file sharing. So this router should be compatible.

This is only my guess, not a guarantee.
