First of all, I'm a new member here, like this site, keep up the good work!
So the new OPL 0.8 is released, I got a few questions :
1-I have OPL 0.7 set up by a friend on a memory card in slot 2 of my PS2, he set it up in some way to automatically run once the PS2 is turned on. I want to replace the elf file with OPL 0.8 keeping that option of auto turn-on.
2-I ran OPL 0.8 via ulaunchelf as beta test, and tried the ISO support feature via network, but it didn't see the ISO but it did see the games installed by usbutil 2.00. Any ideas?
3-If I did manage to make it see the ISO's, will it be a plus to use ISO's? I have like 60 patched PS2 games converted to the format of old OPL. Will converting them while they're patched back to ISO's work?
4-Each time I try to copy files via ulaunch elf via network to my memory cards, whether I click paste or mcpaste, it says paste failed
    Help is appreciated. Thanks

1 - I'm not certain, but you might just be able to rename the OPL0.8 elf file to the EXACT spelling as the OPL0.7 elf file and then replacing the OPL0.7 elf with the renamed OPL0.8 elf.

2 - ISOs must be placed in the 'DVD' folder within the PS2SMB folder. For me for example, I place my ISOs in C:\PS2SMB\DVD

3 - I've seen a few users post that it might give a SMALL performance increase over using USBUtil game installs.

4 - Have you tried using a USB flash drive?

Cheers mate. Didn't know about DVD folder thingy, will try it asap.
It worked with USB Flash drive, but network is faster, it's a pain to go to PC and copy the elf files or saves, then go to the PS2 and copy. Oh well, guess I'll just use flash drive till a solution is found.
Another question if you wouldn't mind , my hdd on which my PS2 games are installed ( I bought one and installed it into my PC just for PS2 games ) is FAT32 as I previously used it in an external hdd enclosure but then I used network mode. As far as I know, max size supported by FAT32 is 4 GB, but some games which I really like are more than 4 GB. Also by trying another partition on my PC on my other hdd, it seems that NTFS works with network games. Is there a way to convert this hdd partition from FAT32 to NTFS without formatting it? I don't have a place to backup this much of games, and re-ripping almost 60 games from DVD's would be so hard, especially that my DVD burner isn't really good and takes some time in ripping the games.
Thanks again for taking time in helping me, appreciated

    2. Need correct location, correct naming.

    Everything explained here:

    Official OPLv0.8 User Guides

    3. Performance increase is not really a decisive argument to use ISO. I mean you should not convert your old ul games for this only reason.

But however ISO files provide more flexibility, ease of use. You have one single file, you have a clear naming of the game (and in 0.9 we plan to push the game name limit to 64 or 128 characters, here it is only 32 to be compliant with ul format), you don't need the additional process of splitting files, you can burn your ISO if you need a DVD of it, ...

If you want to convert your ul games back to ISO you can use the "opl2iso.exe" that you can find in the guide above.

No parameter to list the game from the ul.cfg file, then "iso2opl SLES_123.45" for every game you want to convert back to ISO

    ---------------------------

For your last question, google answer:

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt

    1. Open Command Prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.

    2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

For example, typing "convert D: /fs:ntfs" would convert drive D: with the ntfs format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.

    Woow thanks izdubar. Very imforative.
I converted some games in ul format to ISO's, I just wanted to know, they were patched DNAS and IOPRP via usbutil. Will converting them back to ISO's still work?
Yeah ISO's are much easier to rename etc, also usbutil destroyed some of my games when renaming them and re-ripping was required as they turned bad and size 0.00, and didn't work.
Last question, is it possible to convert FAT32 to NTFS without losing data? As some of my games are more than 4 GB and won't fit in FAT32.
    Thanks

OPL was designed to not require the DNAS/IOP patching anymore. For best results, you should use plain raw untouched rip of your game.

But, that doesn't mean they won't work with OPL, you should try. However if they already work in ul format, they will too in ISO.

As said, there is really no difference between two format in terms of compatibility.

PS: for your question on conversion, see my post above, I edited it after reading your post

    Thanks for your help.
It doesn't need DNAS/IOP anymore, but I didn't know that so I patched all of my games.
Today I tried my ISO of PES 2011 ( I ripped it to ISO and installed it because USB Extreme and USB Util, neither was able to install them directly from disc for some reason ). I think usb util patches the ISO itself during the patching process, not the game after installation. That's why it possibly didn't work, but in ul format it worked. I'll try more games and convert some later and report back with results.
Thanks so far, are you sure that won't format the drive? I can't risk losing those games.
    Thanks again.

    @Skorpian:
It sounds to me as if you are continuing to use USBUtil not only for installing games in the old split-file format, which USBUtil is good at, but also for generic ripping of ISO files, which USBUtil is NOT so good at.

For generic ISO file ripping from DVD discs it is best to use a tool specifically designed for that purpose, such as "DVD Decrypter".
Its later 'descendant' "ImgBurn" is also quite good at ripping, though its focus has been changed from ripping to burning of images.

Both programs are freeware, so they will cost you nothing.

    Best regards: dlanor
