This is a real headbanger. So for the last 10 hours I have been ****ing with every possible setting following every guide and advice and I'm just stuck. When I rip one of my games into my shared folder I can see the game on the ps2 and even play it. Only once however. After I reset or turn off the ps2 it will never show up again. This has happened with two of my games. The Warriors I ripped and It showed up in my games list so I played it for an hour or so without problem then turned the ps2 off to take a break (left my pc connected and everything) came back and the game was no where to be found. After I ripped my other game bully it did the same thing I played it once but after a reset it too could not be found. Why is this so. Using opl 0.8 and a crossover cable.
There is not a problem with my settings if it has actually worked before but why does it only work sometimes.

It doesn't work only sometimes
I guess you are experiencing "share violation". When you run a game, the file got locked by samba/CIFS (on your remote host). Resetting the PS2 doesn't release it.
When you come back on your PS2, files are still associated with the previous "session".
If your remote host is running linux, just restart samba:
# /etc/init.d/smb restart
(or any similar command ... as your service could be "smbd", "samba", or even using the new systemd management of services).
On windows, I guess you can only restart your computer to fix the problem.
I have one bug on my todo list for this since years
(Nothing can be done really, it is just about showing a warning to the user when he tries to use a VMC file which is locked the same way)

I found something interesting going on. I was able to finally replicate something. When I start opl nothing is in the screen. However when I start the hld server (or similar) then close it right after it starts for some reason that triggers the ps2 to refresh and alas. My games appear. Any reason?

... You mean starting the HDL server embedded into OPL ?
Doing that shutdown any device being started, then load all modules needed to manage the internal HDD, thus loading for the network adapter module too (as it is the same device).
So my question is, what startup mode are you using for the ETH device ?
Maybe that "auto" doesn't work for your case, so try manual for now, and start the network manually upon your next ps2 restart.

Its been manual and auto neither have worked.
Its a ps2 slim if that matters.

Bah you could use wireshark to sniff the dialog between your PS2<>PC ... you'll have the answer there, but it is not easy to do for a non techie.

I learned about wireshark in school. I know how to use it. Thanks for the tip.
