I cant play games over ethernet from a linux samba server (ps2 connected to a thin client modified as linux samba server).

I can see, read/write the share (PS2SMB) from windows xp, windows 7, and pclinuxos, even SMS Player can see and play movies from the share.
But only OPL gives me Network Error 300. I have searched the forums and it seems is a logon problem.
In OPL I tried user guest, nobody, changed ports (137, 138, 139, 445), but no luck.

Is there any special config option in smb.conf for OPL to work?

If any linux guru can pretty please help me, I atached my smb.conf becouse is too long to post it here.

I forgot to give more details: the linux samba server is Damn Small Linux 4.4.1, kernell 2.4.31, Samba 2.2.9

    It's probably an ISO problem.

Go to the OPL User Guids site to show you how to rename iso's (don't bother with the programs, it's easier to do it manually.)

To find the game code, go to the Sony Index site and find your game.

The thing is that is not connecting at all, not that is not displaying the names.
The names are fine, those same isos work if I place them in a share from windows xp.
I can track what connections are made from the linux server and nothing apears with OPL.
Strange thou that OPL created VMC folder in the samba share, even it didnt connected.

    It did?

Someone really needs to make a comprehensive tutorial about all these problems...

Seriously, I moved the folder I had sharing all my files in, and it no longer picks up the folder PERIOD, no matter where I put it...

    Hi,

I just spent a frustrating day trying to get OPl working on SolusOS linux.

The fix for the 300 error for me was to stop using username GUEST and use the username and password that I log into linux with.

Of course I had already ran smbpasswd to add my username and password to SAMBA.

    [edit]

Just added another ethernet card to my PC to connect the PC to the PS2 using a crossover cable.

Ended up with the dreaded 300 error again :-(

The solution was to add the new ethernet card to the smb config file.

I changed the following line from:

    interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8 eth1

    To :

    interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8 eth1 eth2

Strangely, even without this modification SMS still worked!

Wish someone would port the samba routines from SMS to OPL.....

    [edit]

    HTH

Thx for your reply, I will try this.
It bugs me the fact that from windows xp, windows 7 and PCLinuxOS i can connect using username "nobody" and no password, and even SMS Player can connect.

I will try changing security to user from share in smb.conf too, to see how it goes.

    Hi,

I just tried setting up SMS.

I found, like you that it works even without a username and password in the SMS_smb (can't use the ".") file

    Cheers, Ian

This is soo strange. OPL is soo picky.
I changed the cable, security to share, added other user to sistem and to samba, and now the damn thing WORKS with user: guest, no password, and games in ul format.

If anyone want to make a nas samba server on system with no hdd (old pc, thin clients (mine is soo quiet)), just usb stick/hdd, this is where I got it:
Custom NAS Server Using Damn Small Linux
I can attach my backup.tar.gz if someone needs it, just ask.

The usb stick is split in 2 partitions: 50 mb ext2 for linux and the rest is fat32 partition (shared over the network) where are the config files and the games in ul format.
Is usefull for me to play eyetoy games (allready tested with sega superstars and yeti arctic sports).
