Need help with HD loader / OpenPS2 Loader soft reset issue. –

I'm hoping somebody knows how to fix this problem. Basically when I try to do a ingame "soft reset" (L1,L2,R1,R2, start select) I get this weird pink border around the screen, then either BSOD or it completely resets the PS2 back to the main mcboot menu. This happens in Kingdom Hearts 2 NTSC, in which I copied to HDD using my original retail disc.

Did you set the IGR path from the Settings menu?
If you do,make sure the path is 100% correct(including every single letter case size)

Also, not all games work with IGR, those that give you BSOD will always do that.

What exactly does IGR mean? All I did was used HD loader to load KH2 to the HDD, then opened it, I didn't set any settings.

Umm,lets get something clear...are you using HDLoader or Open PS2 Loader.
They are different programs to play games and IGR(in game reset)is used in completely different way

I've used both with the same results. I'll try whichever one you guys suggest with any suggested settings to get it working right, so I can soft reset back to the games main menu. Also sorry for the long wait on replies, been pretty busy today, and thanks for helping me!

Here's what I do for Open PS2 Loader ...
1) Make a folder on your USB stick entitled "IGR" (use capital letters).
2) Copy and paste OPNPS2LD.ELF to that folder.
3) Rename it to "IGR.ELF" (again, use all capital letters)
4) When you boot up Open PS2 Loader, go to the settings menu ...
5) Set the IGR Path to "MASS:\IGR\IGR.ELF"
6) Choose "Save Settings" from OPL's main menu ...
Start a game and give it a whirl ...
If all works correctly, you'll see the pink border again briefly, followed by red screen, then a green screen, then OPL will re-start ...
If you only see the red screen (not the green one) followed by the main FMBC menu, that means I got my forward and back slashes mixed up again ...
Go back to step 4, but change all instances of "\" to "/" in the IGR path ...

On OPL 0.8(which probably he is using)don't have the ability to point to exactly where to exit to.
There are 3 hard coded paths and that's all
Go to the Settings of OPL and on Exit path, you have to choose to where to reset. You have 3 options.
1.To the Browser
2.To mc0:\BOOT\BOOT.ELF
3.To mc0:\APPS\BOOT.ELF
If you have FMCB installed, then mc0:\BOOT\BOOT.ELF is probably uLaunchELF.If you want to exit to OPL,you have to place it into mc0:\APPS\ and name it BOOT.ELF

neither of these worked... I do have 0.8 OPL. Now I have a question, is it pretty much impossible for just a normal IGR to happen with the game on the HDD?

It's not impossible, you are just doing something wrong.
I reset back to OPL on a lot of games(including this one)a lot of times without any problems.
Did you create a folder named APPS in your first memory card and place there OPL with name BOOT.ELF(everything upper case).
Do you have FMCB installed?
If you do and already have a file named BOOT.ELF in the first card in the BOOT directory, just try setting the Exit path to mc0:\BOOT\BOOT.ELF and see if OPL reset to uLaunchELF
