My mod chip accepts the USB mode of OPL 0.7 but when it comes to networking, it looks like the port is disabled

the count down jumps from 5 to 2 and then FREEEZES

Is there a way to overcome this problem? or
if this is true, what other mod chips could have the same problem?

    I'm using SCPH-75004 CB slim PS2
OPL 0.7 and free MCBoot 1.8

I'd say try disabling the chip, since you already have FMCB installed. From searching it seems to be a cheap China clone like this one. I don't know what kind of chip that is, so maybe someone else can reply, but if nobody does I'd search online for how to disable other PS2 mod-chips and try that to see if it works.
    Hardware: PS2 v7 (GH-022) NTSC | Crystal Chip 2.0 Pro SLE | Sony Network Adapter | 300GB Segate HDD
    Software: uLaunchELF 4.40 | HDLoader 0.8c | HDL_Dump 0.8.6+GUI | SMS 2.9 (Rev.3)
My Projects: uLaunchELF - skins/template | skin template readme | documentation (contributor)

    It's the newer version of the modchip the SCPH-39001 PS2 I owned before I returned it had - a M-Chip 2 modchip.

It's supposed to be a Mars Clone.

It's disabled/put into PSX-mode by double-tapping the power button (At least the M-Chip 2 works like that).

It shouldn't conflict with any software/hardware... because it doesn't seem to be designed to do that (Doesn't block, or use certain parts of the PS2).
    Unmodified SCPH-77006 with SM 3.6
SCPH-39006 with M-chip modchip, SCPH-10281 NA and refurb Seagate 80GB HDD
SCPH-10000 v1.00 with SCPH-10190 PCMCIA NA and SCPH-20400 HDD unit
    PS2ESDL v0.823B

Well I tried to double tab the power button and the mod chip was disabled

Thanks a lot for your help, I can try the networking mode now

but this mod chip made me more troubles:

    - I can't play backed up DVD9 games
    - The Playstation.2 logo does not appear when games run

Sould it be replaced?? I heard that poor quality mod chips damage the laser, but I have this PS2 for about five years and it's doing great...

    Thanks again...
