Yes, it works from HDD in OPLv0.8.......tested it myself just now.

SLUS_201.65 (NTSC) Soul Reaver 2 - OPLv0.8: Works fine, no modes - IGR: works

Since you did not provide any details other than to say it dont work, heres what i did:

    Ripped with DVD Decrypter:

    Logfile:
    I 17:48:23 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started!
    I 17:48:23 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3)
    I 17:48:23 Drive J:\
    I 17:48:23 Initialising SPTI...
I 17:48:23 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
    I 17:48:23 Found 1 CD-ROM, 1 DVD-RW and 1 Unknown!
    I 17:51:20 Operation Started!
    I 17:51:20 Source Device: [1:0:0] TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002 1S33 (F: ) (ATA)
    I 17:51:20 Source Media Type: DVD-ROM
    I 17:51:20 Source Media Region Code: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
I 17:51:20 Source Media Copyright Protection System Type: None
I 17:51:20 Source Media Application Identifier: PLAYSTATION
I 17:51:20 Source Media Implementation Identifier: DVD-ROM GENERATOR
    I 17:51:20 Destination File: J:\SLUS_20165.ISO
    I 17:51:20 File Splitting: Auto
I 17:51:20 Detect Mastering Errors: No
I 17:51:20 Remove Macrovision Protection: Yes
    I 17:51:28 Extracting Sectors... (LBA: 0 - 2274335)
    I 17:59:46 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:08:25
    I 17:59:46 Average Read Rate: 9,007 KB/s (6.5x) - Maximum Read Rate: 15,212 KB/s (11.0x)
Then Installed with Winhiip 1.7.6 :

Ran with OPLv0.8 and the game booted without any issues. I didnt go thru the process of playing the game, but i viewed a few video "extras" and watched the Intro after selecting 'Start new game".

Perhaps give a little more info and maybe we can help.

Well, i think i see why you maybe having a problem with the NTSC version, your not using a retail disc, but instead your extracting an ISO from a backup!

    My DVD Decrypter log:
    I 17:51:20 Operation Started!
    I 17:51:20 Source Device: [1:0:0] TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R5002 1S33 (F: ) (ATA)
    I 17:51:20 Source Media Type: DVD-ROM
    I 17:51:20 Source Media Region Code: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
I 17:51:20 Source Media Copyright Protection System Type: None
I 17:51:20 Source Media Application Identifier: PLAYSTATION
I 17:51:20 Source Media Implementation Identifier: DVD-ROM GENERATOR
    I 17:51:20 Destination File: J:\SLUS_20165.ISO
    Your DVD Decrypter log:
    I 16:45:31 Source Device: [1:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4165B DL03 (E (ATA)
    I 16:45:31 Source Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: GSC003)
    I 16:45:31 Source Media Region Code: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
I 16:45:31 Source Media Copyright Protection System Type: None
I 16:45:31 Source Media Application Identifier: PLAYSTATION
I 16:45:31 Source Media Implementation Identifier: DVD-ROM GENERATOR
    I 16:45:31 Destination File: D:\SLUS_20165.ISO
I can only assume its the same for the PAL version, but that little bit of info is missing from the log...

Looks to me you got a bad rip there.....try using a retail disc and it will work.

1 - the game is a copy from my original soulreaver 2 ntsc
2 - i rip the game with dvd decripter and ultra iso, and copy the iso to hdd. ftp, hdloader 8c, winhiip, hdldump, and dont work
3 - i try many copies in the web ntsc and pal and all have the same problem freezes after crystal dinamics logo, in the opl 0.7 frezzes in the loading screen
4- all isos work in open ps2loader 0.7 , 0.8 in SMB but, internal hdd dont work
5 - but all copies and the original works in the ps2 dvd reader, the question is what happen.?

As the failing mode is HDD, maybe you have a newer harddrive, or whatever speed is different than the one of JNABK.

There were already some variours report from trusted users due to the HDD timing.

Have you tried DMA mode, the lowest one, to try slowing down your HDD ?

If you have the REAL game disc, then do what i said in my first post, rip to ISO with dvd decrypter, then INSTALL with Winhiip and it WILL work.

If it dont, then you have a damaged disc that is giving errors or isnt ripping a good rip. Either way you look at this, a GOOD rip WILL work. If it doesnt work, then its a bad rip and theres nothing we can do to help with that.

I dont think its due to the HDD, as he reprted a lot of other games from the HDD in a different post and nearly all worked for him, thats why i think he's just got a bad rip. Either his original disc is damaged or scratched , but perhaps it is a HDD thing, i dunno. Could be something in how it got installed, which is why suggested he do what i did, as i know that works.

And he shouldnt use any backups, use the original disc and make a fresh clean ISO.

Another idea is, he could put the original in the PS2 and use HDL to install right from the disc in the PS2 to HDD. He said it works fine from CD/DVD, so he should get a good rip that way and even test it in HDL while he's in it.

Yeah I agree with you, but as you said, his original DVD is ok, and it even works in SMB, so I guess the "source" might be fine, and the only last thing I hav in mind is trying with MDMA0 (and maybe some other, but MDMA0 first).

Opps, i missed the part of it working in SMB, so i guess it is his HDD or an error during installation. With so many games on his HDD, he could have some bad cluster and keeps installing into the same clusters.
