I've decided to make as complete a collection of opl cover art as I can find on gFAQ since I'm sick of the 'guides' having missing images, corrupt images, and flat out incorrect box art (using ntsc covers for pal region games is just lazy) and I'm going to pass the savings on to all of you. Keep in mind with some of these lists that some games may be listed technically out of order due to region name changes, I'm too lazy to do anything about it and it would make this long task take even longer. Some rules I have set for myself are;

1. No dupes, this means games with the same disc id only get the original cover unless trumped by another rule.
2. Limited/Special Edition trumps original box art, because I decided so.
3. Only covers from a region with a disc id listed are saved, this does seem to leave out almost all AU and KO region games but so far it looks like they share covers with PAL and NTSC-J region games respectively so I'm assuming they share ID as well.
4. .jpg ONLY, .png just uses too much space for no gain with this project.
5. Conflicting games will be included with disc id followed by an increasing alphabetic letter per conflict, example; SLPS_257.48A.jpg, SLPS_257.48B.jpg, etc

If anyone feels they want to help then here's how, pick a letter let us know which one and get to it, just remember OPL uses box art sized to 140 x 200 and a naming convention like this: ABCD_123.45_COV.jpg, or you can get missing disc id/cover art and let me know, no watermarked images will be used ever. If for any reason someone with the power to do something about it feels this post doesn't belong here, I understand. If for any reason whatsoever something bad happens and you assume me or this project had something to do with it, too bad.

It seems to me like it would be easier and better to stick with PNG, since most (?) art files are already in that format. It is trivial to batch covert to any lossy format with Irfanview, so you could have two sets once the collection is complete.

As an aside, I hate to nit pick, but some of those titles don't seem to belong in the # group, like Fighter Maker 2...

The Japanese title for Fighter Maker 2 is 3D Kakutou Tsukuru 2. Also, all gFAQ pics are already in jpg.

Y'know, I'll bet someone here could come up with an automated method to nab and rename all the pics at once. Probably one of those insufferable Perl users...

Actually, I think I could probably do it myself, if someone would be evil and download the entire /ps2/ section for me.

I was just searching around for some cover art the other day... I threw the task out the window within an hour due to all of the reasons you stated in your OP.

edit: Alien's in the Attic's gamecode is nowhere to be found on the internet.

I usually cobble together custom cover art for a game if I can't find the cover anywhere, or if I consider the JPN/EUR cover art to be better (i.e. Radiata Stories, Suikoden Tactics).

With that said, Juggalomars's project is a welcome addition. I'm at gFAQs alot, and man, I haven't updated or consolidated my own FAQs in years.
