When you use SMB, your already using the resources of the Network Adapter to play games across the LAN, so to further connect online is not currently possible, since the PS2 has no Operating System to do multiple Network connections thru the NA.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

I'm using slim ps2. so, if i want to play multiplier ps2 to ps2, example game: Delta Force Black Hawk Down. on the game menu there's multiplier so i try to play on ps2 and other ps2 on the same game, when add add network setting, it can't read the hardware. i has read a thread on opl forum, if we using cd/dvd game or ps2fat with NA it possible to detect the hardware of network via LAN, is't true?

cause there's nothing OS on PS2 again, so it mean i can't play the game ps2 to ps2 via LAN on OPL SMB?

by the way, i has tested play multiplier game with usbexternal. the game has i try is Winning eleven 8 liveware Evolution. i can add network & test connection, its succes. hardware isn't failure. and i can play that game with ps2 to ps2 (2 console). so in mymine, why OPL SMB doesn't can detect the network hardware. On OPL USB its succes. So its a challenge to author.

Enough dumb challenge thread for today.

JNABK answer was perfectly correct. Read it again in case you didn't understand.

...thanks for that...it gave me a good laugh!

Correct! The PS2 cant make 2 Network connections at the same time.

    Device breakdown:
USB Games = connected via the USB port (network protocol is not in use) and Online/LAN gaming is available
HDD Games = connected to internal HDD, powered thru NA (network protocol is not in use) and Online/LAN gaming is available
Network Games = connected via SMB over a LAN connection, uses the Network IP (internet protocol) to make the connection and Online/LAN gaming is NOT available BECAUSE the Network is in use by SMB.

If that is not clear enough, then im sorry i cant help you with understanding it.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

    Enough dumb challenge.

Do you think we never tought to have online games working while playing SMB ?

It's impossible actually, and I think it will ever be (for OPL at least).
And challenging us all the time will lead nowhere...

Even if it was possible, I would doubt the online game servers are still open. Last time I checked was about 4-5 years ago with Everybody's Golf, while the server was still up there was nobody playing. Online play was never really that popular on PS2.
