You got to be kidding me.
My father's Dell Dimension E520 was running Windows 7 for about 2 years before it had to be retired due to hardware problems, and it had an Intel Pentium D CPU (3.0GHz, 667MHz FSB, 3GB DDR RAM)! D:
And it ran with the Aero interface enabled.
If your PC can run Windows Vista, it can run Windows 7... since Vista seems heavier than Windows 7 in my opionion.
But anyway, why do you need to change your OS to Windows 7? :S
If you got an error right away during install, it's probably not related to how strong or how insufficient your PC is...
