Ciao, I am using PS2 loader with an 300mb 2.5 hd from about 4 weeks with my ps2's son. The compatibility of the games is very good but how I have read, after deleting and reistalling some games the hd needs to be defrag because otherwise a lot of games don't work anymore. I use "Defraggler" (always the latest version) but it requires a whole day (!) to defrag the hd (about 200gb of games and about 100gb of free space). Any tips to speed up the defrag operation? is there the same "problem" using lan option? ciao and sorry for my poor english :-)

The defragmentation process is very quick for me, using the PowerDefragmenter 3.0. I was able to defragment a 1TB USB HDD in only a few minutes (10-15). I think you might have other programs running on your PC and they are slowing down your PC's resources towards the defragmentations process. Or your HDD just might have been heavily fragmented and it takes longer the more fragmented a drive is to defragment it. Mine was hardly fragmented, since it was a freshly formatted HDD and only the games were installed, with very few deleted files causing very little fragmentation.

I dont't think there's a possibility to defrag a PS2 HDD since it has a different filesystem. Also every game you install is getting it's own partition, so you just can't defrag the "windows" way. The only way I know is to format the HDD and reinstall the games you like. But I think we should stick to OPL and get this question over to a new thread in the HDD forum... [maybe some mod can move it...]

Fragmentation is only a serious problem on the USB drive.
On APA drives (expansion bay or PCMCIA) if you don't add and remove games all the time you should not have fragmentation problems at all.

And the minimal chunk size on APA is 128MB anyway.

I meant to move it right after i posted......but its moved to the correct place now.
I also forgot to mention ONLY a USB device needs to be defragmented for use with the USB Games option.
