I tought I was forgetting something, but I've tried capturing the packets of the network card and I could see some SYN packets going to the PS2, but no response.
When I did the same thing using the standard hdl_dump server on PS2, it got connected sucessfully.

Is this new SMAP driver only compatible with crossover connection? I have a DI 524 router that connects all the devices (PS2, PC, notebook, celphone, etc...)

You guys're doing a really nice work!
SYN packets? There shouldn't be SYN packets. You're forgetting to set the server type in the HDL Dumb helper to v0.90 (v0.86 uses TCP, while v0.90 uses only UDP... which is connectionless).

If you can ping your PS2 from your PC after the SMAP testing platform has been launched, it should be working.

    Oh Gosh...you're right.
I've selected hdl dump 0.90 on the "Settings" menu and it worked!

But I got surprised....i'm thinking how the files don't corrupt if we have a packet drop. UDP packtes cannot be retransmited theoretically.
Well, this will be a nice thing to see with wireshark.
I have no speed improved, but i'm testing on slow wireless network using a Virtual Machine, so it's impossible to get a good troughput.

Thanks SP193, keep up this excellent work.

I'll use this driver as default on my PS2 and post some results when I have my network fixed.

I was not the one who engineered the HDL Dump v0.90 protocol specification... but from what I see: It's behaving a little like TCP. The client makes a request and expects a reply from the server. If it does not receive a valid reply within a fixed time period, it'll resend the request.

It's packets have sequence numbers too.

Under ideal conditions where packet drops are absolutely zero, you can get speeds like 5MB/s.

It really depends on your network equipment too, as I have personally gotten mediocre performance like 2.3MB/s when my SCPH-39006 was connected to my Lenovo laptop through a crosssover cable.

I traded my PS2 for a different one at the local shop and now I can install over the network. I only get 3.0MB/s but that's good enough I think. I suspect my old switch is responsible for me not getting faster speeds.
