I'm guessing that's at least partially why, at least with some versions of the hacked HDDOSD out there, that it spins up the drive, spins it back down, then spins it up again? That was one reason I chose to use FHDB with the ROM OSD instead, it spins up once and doesn't spin down until I power the system off, or until a program spins it down on exit like some of SP193's recent software has in past versions (I also set OPL's HDD spindown timer to 0 so that it will keep the drive powered on for the entire gaming session).
