You see, I installed HD Project 1.081 to make Virtual Memory Cards, as most of my games won't take my Memory Card.
Thing is, when I try to load a game using VMC, it will just say "System File not found. Please Check your CDVD Game"
Any help you guys could offer me to fix this issue?

    Thank you very much

Im not all that familiar with the old HD Project, but if you didnt know, OPL has a VMC built-in to use and can create a VMC file on the device your game is booted from.

Official OPLv0.8 User Guides - VMC
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

For me that would be a sign that I'd have to get another Memory Card, as it is important to have one that works right.

I never bothered with that awkward VMC implementation, which is now fully obsoleted by the built-in VMC support of "Open PS2 Loader" (== OPL).

The game loader OPL allows you to run backup games from 3 different types of storage media (internal PS2 HDD, external USB drives, remote SMB server (PC or NAS)), with full support for VMC files stored on the same medium as the games using them, including ability of the OPL gui to create new VMC files on any of those media.

So using OPL to run your games should solve some of your problems.
But I still recommend getting a properly working Memory Card.

Thank you all for your answers. I think I will go for the OPL.
Still, even if I buy a new MC, I would have to fix the Slot 1 reader, as it seems to be broken.

You see, I'm kinda new into using Homebrew for my consoles (I usually just mess around with my computer :P). Is there any step-by-step tutorial for the OPL?

    Thanks!

    Thank you very much!
No more help needed. You guys saved me

    Edit:

Wait, I forgot to ask... How do I make a VMC on OPL? I mean, it says
    " Create a VMC file:
Select a game from a device list and press (Triangle button here) Game settings. Here you have an entry for both VMC slots.
    * VMC Slot 1 <not set> Use generic
    * VMC Slot 2 <not set> Use generic "

What device should I use? I have the OPL in an USB device (an old MP4), and my PS2 mod is SCPH-90001.

By the way, can I play my game on DVDs (using the PS2, and not a HDD) AND use a VMC from the OPL?

    * VMC Slot 2 <not set> Use generic "
In that menu both the "<not set>" entry and the "Use generic" entry are selectable, and selecting one of them and then pressing 'Cross' will set the name entry accordingly, and for the <not set> choice this will open another settings page with a suggested VMC file name filled in (but editable) based on the game ID code. And if no such VMC file exists on the given media, you are able to specify a size (default is 8MB) and create the VMC file, using the command "Create" shown as the bottom-most entry of that screen. If you already had such a VMC file, then that command entry would instead be "Modify".

What device should I use? I have the OPL in an USB device (an old MP4), and my PS2 mod is SCPH-90001.
With that model your only device choices are USB or LAN (aka: ETH, aka: SMB).

That is unless you manage to find one of the super-rare modchip-based IDE-HDD addon kits that work for this model of PS2. But they are hard to get hold of and demanding to install (lots of hardware modification including motherboard soldering).

By the way, can I play my game on DVDs (using the PS2, and not a HDD) AND use a VMC from the OPL?
    No, for two reasons.

1: OPL does not run games from physical DVD discs.
2: OPL only uses VMC files stored on the same physical medium as the game.

So in practice you can only use OPL to run games from USB or LAN. You can have games on both of course, and switch between their game menus at will. But the VMC files used by a game must reside on the same medium as that game.

There are technical reasons for this, and the main one is that loading one extra device driver for game loading is bad enough, but loading two different ones (that would normally not be used by the game) will frequently cause crashing due to overallocation of the tiny 2 MB RAM space of the IOP (IO Processor which handles all device drivers).

In fact the overuse of IOP RAM is one of the largest problems that OPL or any other PS2 game loader has to get around. And using VMC on different media than the games would create new serious problems of this kind.

    Got it.
You see, I have 3 Hard Drives (I think that is its name in english, not sure though.) to use on the computer via USB (1Tb, 320Gb, and XGb (not sure)). Do these work for this process?

I mean, if I give them format FAT or FAT32, will the PS2 recognize it as any other USB device (MP4/MP3/etc.)?
I can connect them the same way as any USB device, via the USB port on the front of the PS2.

    Thank you!

    I think so, though I never tried a 1TB drive myself with a PS2.
There has to be some limit to the size capacity of the drivers, but I believe it is higher than 1TB. (If not, then you may need to use 2 partitions, with the first one used for OPL)

I mean, if I give them format FAT or FAT32,
The format must be FAT32 and nothing else, if the drive is to work well with PS2 homebrews such as OPL.

will the PS2 recognize it as any other USB device (MP4/MP3/etc.)?
I don't understand what you mean here.
MP4/MP3 are not USB devices, but video and audio file formats.

Possibly you are referring to MP4/MP3 players that incorporate a USB storage drive, and if that works normally then such a player might also work to hold OPL games.

Any storage drive formatted to FAT32 will normally be recognized as a generic mass storage device, and the PS2 software will then be able to access files of it regardless of their type, including of course ".MP4" and ".MP3" types. (Being able to use them well is another matter.)

There are exceptions however, as some USB drives use variations of the protocol or its timing that the homebrew device drivers for the PS2 can't cope with. So some few USB drives simply don't work, due to such compatibility problems.

I can connect them the same way as any USB device, via the USB port on the front of the PS2.
Yes, that is how it works.

However, you are never going to be fully happy with the results of playing games off USB drives, due to the superslow access speed of the PS2 USB 1.1 port implementation. Games will often lag and stutter because the speed with which they need to read from the game disc image is higher than what the PS2 USB interface can deliver.

That is one of the reasons why I prefer to run my games over network instead, from storage on a PC, as the game image transfer speed is higher eliminating the speed problems that afflict PS2 USB usage.

    Best regards: dlanor

The reason why I dont use the network for my PS2 is because I dont know how to use it (lol).
