Having trouble getting OPL to work

Hello, I have been scouring the internet looking at videos and guides to try and get OPL to work for me. So here is what I did so far.

I formatted by external hard drive to FAT 32.
Since the game was larger than 4 gigs, I used USBExtreme to install it to the external hard drive.
I de-fragmented the hard drive after installing
I then plugged in the hard drive to the ps2, ran OPL v0.8 through uLaunchElf, and tried to run Gran Turismo 3.
It flashes the colors and keeps getting stuck on one of the colors (green I believe)
So i tried different combinations of modes without much luck.
So i did the whole process again, except with a different game (Grand Theft Auto 3) and still no luck. This time it stays on the white colored screen.

Is there anything i'm missing? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

usually what fixes it is green screen (mode 1), in the case of white screen usually is bad structure of the game, play badly ripped, or even fragmentation (when the check is not enabled on OPL)

try using usbutil to install the games. or
also try running the games by PS2SDL (Playstation 2 External Storage Device games Loader (PS2ESDL)) to see if it solves

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded and tried PS2SDL with using usbutil to install the games and with no settings changed, Gran Turismo 3 gave a blank screen.
When I turned on unhook syscalls, it gave me the opening screen, but nothing more after. That was really the most progress that it got with changing the settings.

I originally started off with v0.9 but was having similar results, so i went down to v0.8

i have no problems with GT3 or GT4 with OPL 0.9 currently running r644 i think........ but i am on an internal HDD so that might make a difference.
