Having Doubts with SMB in OPL
Having Doubts with SMB in OPL –
I have recently got a BEN 10 ALIEN FORCE: VILGAX ATTACKS CD from my friend whose laser had worn out. I ripped the CD and am left with an ISO. So, I dont have HDD and i know that playing games of pen drive is not an improvement. That was when i read about SMB. i have fmcb v1.8, and opl v0.8, so here is my network setup.
1. I have a DSL modem which is connected to my DLINK ADSL2+ router. I have a vista laptop which is connected through WiFi. If I were to connect a LAN cable, would it hamper my existing internet connection?
2.I had read a blog at ([How To] Boot Games Off Network (SMB) With Playstation 2 (PS2) Using OpenPS2Loader (A Novice Guide) « Welcome to the Underground.) and it said,"If using router method, then make sure the PC ip address matches what your router assigns your PC)." What does this mean? How do I know the IP address assigned to My Computer?
3.If i get a USB powered HDD, then can I charge it through a PHILIPS USB AC Adapter which I happen to have? Its power reading is input=100v-240v & output=5.4V or 500 mAh
4. What is a guest account on OPL? Can you please just verify the whole procedure so that i do not waste precious hours doing something wrong?
I read your previous threads and have seen how they have found solution to thier problems. BTW, I am living in INDIA, so if there is any location specific info, please let me know. I have not started the project yet as I wanted to clear all my doubts before trying this. I'm sorry that i sound like a NOOB, but i only discovered FMCB and OPL last week, and want to catch up.
All the help is appreciated and accepted with great gratitude.

No. cause you just connect your LAN-cable and your internet works..... You dont have to give any security-key.....

But leave it with WIFI, it works too if you have a good signal-strength....
all router works with DHCP, that means any PC/LAPTOP that connects to the router (LAN/WIFI) becomes a IP-Adress from the router itself. But you can set your IP manually too......
and it said,"If using router method, then make sure the PC ip address matches what your router assigns your PC)." What does this mean?
Windows Vista: Checking Your Computer's IP Address - GROK Knowledge Base
How do I know the IP address assigned to My Computer?
Look at the "IPv4 IP Adress"
The Guest account is needed if you want to connect the PS2 to the PC.....
What is a guest account on OPL?
EDIT: you dont must set the IP of your Laptop manually.... Just look at your IP and set it in PS2....
So go with the link i give you for looking for your IP.....
write down the "IPv4 IP Adress"
write down the "IPv4 Default Gateway"
make a Folder on your LAPTOP under C:\ or D:\ or where ever you want if you want to use the internal HDD and name it: PS2SMB
share it (but look of some config in the tut of Win7)
make a sub-folder in PS2SMB and name it: CD (here can you put your isos when the game is CD-format)
make a sub-folder in PS2SMB and name it: DVD (here can u put your isos when the game is DVD-format)
make a sub-folder in PS2SMB and name it: ART ( here you can put your covers from the games)
make a sub-folder in PS2SMB and name it: VMC ( here comes your Virtual Memory-Cards you make with OPL if you want)
Setting up PS2 in OPL Network-settings:
- PS2 –
IP: (set here an IP, look at your "IPv4 Default Gateway" and set other number to the last entry. e.g. if its 192.168.0.1 set it to 192.168.0.100 (set a higher number till 250, so it dont match with another PC/LAPTOP)
GW: (set here your "IPv4 Default Gateway")
- PC -
IP: (set here your "IPv4 IP Adress")
SHARE NAME: PS2SMB
PW: (leave blank)
Select in OPL-settings the "Network-Games" to "AUTO"
make "save changes"...
If you make all correct your are ready to go......

ok, so i can see 2 different connections in my Vista Laptop.
1 My WiFi
2 My LAN
But my LAN does not have a default gateway. SO should i put my wifi default gateway?
My LAN ip is 192.168.0.1
because i put my wifi settings, and its blank
your LAN cannot show an IP, cause you are connected via WIFI......
That is the Standard-entry if no connection is active with that...
also look at the WIFI......
what is blank??? OPL??
because i put my wifi settings, and its blank
Did you rename your iso for compatibility for OPL???
read the first part "Instructions:"
Maybe you must configure your router for Port-forwarding the PORT 445....
And i forgot to say if you configure OPL (network and settings) then you must make "save changes".......

OK, I'm sorry, but i had already converted it to usb format. OK so let me tell you my entire network config, so will you tell me what i should put in the opl network settings screen?
192.168.0.1- IP address
So what do I put?
on OPL Network settings:
And your games must named: xxxx_xxx.xx.<gamename>.iso (just rename it)
where "xxxx_xxx.xx" is the gamecode you find on the cd or iso
e.g for "crash bandicoot"
and for <gamename> you can write what ever you want without "< >".....
at last dont use for ".iso" uppercase
.ISO = wrong
.iso = right

O.k. Still not working. I don't know why. So I told my friend, and he told me try his FFXII as he liked it alot. So, i did not convert it or anything and renamed the .iso for compatability and have redone all connections. I checked it through ratchet gladiator and the connection was succesful. I have a seperaye drive formatted in FAT32 and have mad PS2SMB(all uppercase) and inside 4 folders respectively...
I put my FFXII iso in the DVD folder as it was 3.78 GB. I turn on my opl, go to the network config, put the exact same settings as above, saved changes, and still my game does not appear in the network games list. PLEASE, WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG? Also, to access my routers configuration screen, I have to type 192.168.1.2 in my browser bar. Does that have any significance? also i have to type a username and PW, so should i put those instead of guest account?
EDIT: My router has mac filters on for wireless devices. Does that mean I have to put my MAC address (PS2) IN THE WIRELESS CONFIG SCREEN of my router? Help on these queries, LopoTRI

Reason: Forgot to tell you....
No, the user and pass is only for your router and not for the "guest"-account.....
Yes, put your PS2-Mac in your Filter.
And it doesnt matter what game you test. (till 4GB limitation for FAT32).
it must come up on your list, if its compatible to play or not.....
EDIT: have you set in OPL-settings the "Network-Games" to "AUTO" and save it??
EDIT2: i hope you connect your PS2 to your router, cause these settings i give you is for connection over router, and not for plugin PC and PS2 with x-over-cable....
