Hangs on games after a while
Hangs on games after a while –

Hi, i set up OPL. Can get into network games. I can load all my games.
But after a few minutes they stop loading. I was playing Stretch Panic, paused for a few minutes. Unpaused. Music started stuttering, and when i tried to get to a new level it just froze.
Im trying Mode 2 now to see if it helps...
But the games i've played so far do this.
EDIT: Nope still hangs...
No idea why though ...

Ok The problem could be on your pc side media being fragmented not providing reading so you can check your disk for error and defragment and see what happens next

Oh yeah forgot about that. Ill try it and check again
I moved all my games that were converted to a different HDD. So far everything is in at least 5 fragments or w.e

When running games through SMB normal file fragmentation should never cause any hangups or crashes of any kind. Severely fragmented ISOs could possibly cause delays that cause FMV stutters to increase and add other pure timing issues for the game. But crashing of the kind that the USB core suffers from with fragmented games is NOT possible with either the SMB core or the HDD core. That fragmentation issue is unique to the USB core.
It is always best for all types of file handling to have as little fragmentation as possible, as that makes all operations faster and the whole system more 'fluent' in consequence, but it is only a special feature unique to the USB core that makes all fragmentation fatal when using it.

No. It is impossible for anyone here to have an answer to the problems that are unique to your setup, when you supply absolutely no details on that setup.
In this thread you have not mentioned even what version of OPL you are using nor what model of PS2 you are running it on, nor anything about the ripping or installation methods you've used for the games, nor anything at all about your network setup.
We have no relevant information to work with, and therefore we have no answers for you.

OPL 0.7
Can connect to network through router + ethernet cord
Ps2 Slim Silver v12 79001
I used iso2usbld to convert all isos to the correct folder
I can see the games and load them. After a while the game i am playing will stop loading anything beyond or behind it. If im in a level and leave it freezes. But its random. If i rush it will happen wherever i am. it is not specific to each game.
Anything else ill glady supply info.
Oh and Win 7.
I boot OPL through swapmagic and a USB card. Today im going to try installing MCBoot cause my usb sticks arent recognized correctly. Elfs load but if it tries to detect any files while running it doesnt find them.
I left Test drive eve of destruction on for about an hour on my C: drive share folder. No freezing.
I left Test drive eve of destruction on for about an hour on my D: drive share folder. Froze after a few minutes(As stated above)
I left Test drive eve of destruction on for about an hour on my K: (External HDD) drive share folder with no freezing from what i see.
When i do things with my External HDD, like move files the games read speed slows down. So i tried doing it in the D: drive so it wouldnt.
My C drive has 20 gigs left and its running out of room. My external has 600 gigs left so if i must and there is no solution at all i will see if games freeze still on my external. Im not positive if games arent freezing on my K. but im sure 100% they do on my D drive.
Sorry for not supplying the correct info.

@balckop2:
Unfortunately I have zero experience with Win7, so I can't really help you with this.
Someone else with experience in Win7 networking should step in...
But the fact that you get error-free operation with at least one of your fileshares indicates that the problem has more to do with the PC and its configuration, rather than with the PS2 and OPL.

Well my brother said he was playing Tony Hawks American Wasteland and it froze. Maybe it has something to do with the iso? Im going nuts now since Test drive works for hours but others dont?
Any suggestions?
Hm yeah i guess its the games themselves -.-
But they have the EXACT same problem...
I guess ill try different modes and see if they are fixed.
Sorry for all the trouble :X

Hi,
I just have the same problem: I already commented some time ago!
(see: http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthre...480#post485480)
My config is only similar in the PS2 (slim model), the other is different (dedicated gigabit NAS, gigabit Ethernet switch, boot from MC).
I feel that the problem is: not optimized SMB read code!
I suggest to improve it using a very simple sector cache (one or two readahead sectors) or limit the size of sectors (aligned to SMB block size) because at time the SMB read code serves any size of sectors.
Sorry I can fix it because I don't know about homebrew in PS2.
Someone says that I'm a troll (seriosly I like only to suggest a solution to a real problem!), but I repeat: This is a problem of several users.
Jamon.
