So I'm on my BC PS3 and all of a sudden, games have stopped running off of USB. I'm using the same device that they were originally on when they were working and PowerDefragged it, so I'm not sure what's changed.
Has this happened to anyone else ever? If so, how did you fix it?

We also need to know which exact version of OPL you were using.
Here are some things you could do:
1. Re-rip and reinstall your games.
2. Defrag your USB device with another disk defragmentation utility like the Auslogics Disk Defragmenter, other than Power Defragmenter (Since it seems to have a problem with not reporting file fragmentation to the user).
3. Perform a disk check before doing any of the above steps, if possible. This is to prevent errors that might have been caused by filesystem damage.
Your defragging is what caused your error. God knows why you attempted to format a USB drive. There is absolutely ZERO benefit in defragging a removable drive, especially on a Windows machine.
In the future, transfer all data off of the drive, format it and retransfer the files back.
This isn't really related to the topic of the thread, but it's to prevent the transmission of incorrect information: Why do you say that there is no benefit in defragmenting a removable disk on Windows?Quote:

Power defragmenter and Auslogics are 2 very good defragmenting programs that work very well, although there is some who have a preference over the other.
I have used both and see no differences in the out come of my files......but thats just my experiences. I do agree that it is NOT a good idea to use the Windows built-in defragmenting program, as it is not very good for defragmenting as the others are.
1. Don't use the 'Power defragmenter', but Auslogic's tool instead!
2. If you can, try to use a OPL-revision which is known to be working...

What about your PS3s FW? Did you update it in-between?

I have noticed something like that too during my tests after a user reported many games failing (He used Power Defragmenter, and reported no file fragmentation).Quote:

I have to say the Power Defragmenter does get the job very fast, and it does give the same effect as the Auslogics Disk Defragmenter does (Provided that it does finish the job good and proper :)).
Professionals and power users should have no problems using Power Defragmenter... but newbies might not be able to use it properly since it never reports incomplete file defragmentation to the user.
But whatever it is, it's agreed that the disk defragmentation utility that comes with Windows is junk and should not be used....
I guess that it's a result of Power Defragmenter (Contig.exe) using the simple API that Windows (And the Windows defragmenter?) uses too. :crazy:Quote:
