I just found a completely new & sealed PS2-70004 today for a very, very, very good price, and I bought it.
I havenīt had time to unbox it yet...I even think of leaving it in itīs sealed box for future use. Canīt really make up my mind on this one.
Whatīs been said about the 70004-series compared to the 77004-series that I already have? Is it a good one. How does it work with FMBC & OPL?
    PS2 Slim SCPH-77004 with FMCB 1.8
    (Modded with Matrix Infinity)
    Running OPL 0.8
SMB w/ crossed cable in Windows XP with a computer dedicated to only PS2-loading.
    HDD: Samsung G3 1TB
TOTALLY LAG FREE - BOTH IN-GAME AND FMV.

I would imagine it works great with OPL & FMCB, all the slims I have had (not had a 9XXXX series) do. Personally, I would leave it sealed, in 10-20 yrs be worth heck of a lot more.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but you should be careful with that unit's laser.

The SCPH-700xx series of PS2s (v12 and v13s) have a terrible design fault, and that results in the laser getting blown really fast if it was not properly taken care of.

There are fixes for those console models out there though.

One thing that you should never do with a v12 (And v13?): Never hit the reset button repeatedly!!!!!

PS: I've been keping my SCPH-77006 in it's box for a year, but later on decided not to keep it in it's box (And just leave it out) as it might not be too good for the console and the cables (The constant folding, plugging and unplugging might wear things out).
    Unmodified SCPH-77006 with SM 3.6
SCPH-39006 with M-chip modchip, SCPH-10281 NA and refurb Seagate 80GB HDD
SCPH-10000 v1.00 with SCPH-10190 PCMCIA NA and SCPH-20400 HDD unit
    PS2ESDL v0.823B

No problem being a wet blanket, all input is interesting. =)

As for the laser: the future use, if I decide to unbox it someday, will most probably be for SMB-loading and OPL, so the laser-reading wonīt be a problem, but of course worth noting!

The reset-button-thing is something that Iīve never heard of?! What can happen?

As I currently have a working 77004 that is pretty fresh & I have no immidiate intention of unboxing my new 70001 console. So Iīll probably keep it sealed for a couple of years to come. Maybe someone will want to use some good olī OPL PS2-SMB-LOADING in 2030, who knows? (Man, Iīm gonna be like 47 years old in 2030, how time flies...)

If I had one of those consoles, personally, I would install a HD Combo kit so I could enjoy the speed and convenience of internal HDD loading. It's up to you of course, since the installation is a fairly destructive process (in as much as it entirely changes the appearance of the console) but has the opportunity to increase the value instead of harming it if you're looking for a buyer at a later date.

That is of course a route to go. But I donīt see how it will harming the value being stashed away in a good place, boxed, factorysealed and untouched. With a new memorycard with FMCB with it to go.

It seems to only affect v12 consoles badly, as Sony seemed to have improved the mainboard slightly for the v13:
When you repeatedly hit the reset button, the MECHACON of such consoles might crash and result in the laser burning out.

Slimlines are hard to break, but you should use them at least once in a while or they'll break down.

So yea, you might not want to keep that SCPH-70001 in it's box for a couple of years, but occasionally take it out for some "exercise".

Electronics always seem to deteriorate when left unused for a long time.

Hmm... I'll be 37 by then (Dang, that's old)!
And it's only about 19 years away...

    And my PS2 consoles will be about 30, 25 (?) and 23.
