A few questions regarding OPL.

Hey guys, I've looked through the forums, and I am currently thinking about setting up OPL and using its network feature to run games from my PC (as I'm sure my slim PS2's laser won't last forever). I pretty much understand how to install it and get it set up, but I have a few questions regarding how it works:

1) From all the posts/videos I've read/seen, I've noticed that people are running the game off a USB hard drive in some form or manner. Is it possible to just use an internal SATA HDD (NTFS) that's running within my PC rather than buying an external HDD?

2) Do the games have to be in the USB Advance format? Or is it possible for me to simply rip the game via ImgBurn and play it directly as an ISO image?

3) Is there a need for separate folders when it comes to CD based and DVD based PS2 games (I've seen conflicting posts)?

Any clarification would be awesome and appreciated. Thanks.

1) yes

2) no (yes dvd's go in dvd sub folder while cd go in cd sub folder on the latest revs but you would have to compile it for your self)

You just said that it is impossible to use the public v0.7 of OPL without using an external USB drive. And that reply is dead wrong (and probably not what you meant to say).

Even the public v0.7 version of OPL is able to run games using only a PC fileshare.
There is no need at all for any USB drive.

It is better to explicitly state that for both SMB and USB the public OPL v0.7 version demands using only the USBAdvance method of game installation, and for this method no subfolders are used.

And for the self-compiled beta versions that rule still holds true for that method although they also support installation of games as simply stored ISO files, and these must then be placed in subfolders named "CD" and "DVD" depending on the original disc type.

Again, thanks for the awesome reply dlanor. This has really cleared up how OPL functions and I'm really grateful. I'm totally heading over to buy a crossover ethernet cable soon to further the longevity of my PS2 :) Good to know I'll be able to keep playing my PS2 collection even when the laser dies out.
