Hi guys,I bought a new flash drive three days ago.
I want to play two CD games via USB with OPL, but both of them can't launch and freeze with white screen.

    PS2 Slim SCPH-70000 , V13 unmodded.
    FMCB 1.8b

My USB flash drive is "Lexar JumpDrive FireFly 4GB" with FAT32 partition.

The two CD games are :
    Contra:Shattered Soldier [NTSC-U] SLUS_203.06
    ICO [NTSC-U] SCUS_971.13

    Here are the steps :

1-Use CloneCD to backup original game and get ".ccd"+".cue"+".img"+".sub" image files
2-Mount the CCD file to a new virtual drive.
3-Use USBUtil v2.00 Full [English version] to install game from virtual drive.(Media type : CD ; No patch.)
4-Use OPL to play games off USB flash drive.
5-OpenPS2Loader_0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 all of them freeze with white screen .

I think that there may be something wrong with image file format .So, I use Alcohol 120% to create image files(.mds &.mdf) .
In the next step, I do the same thing over again and get the same result this time : games freeze with white screen.

I download "USB Advance v1 ELF" from SKS Apps web site and launch USB Advance v1 via uLE with FMCB.But the games can't launch as before and freeze with white screen.

I checked some USB Game Compatibility List which said both Contra:Shattered Solider and ICO worked via USB .

    Now,I'm confused .

Is there someone can tell me the reason and what should i do?

    Best regards:iceflame

ICO (SCUS_971.13) is known as not working, but it hangs at a black screen already in-game with something similar as if the game disc was scratched (IGR works to exit it so it didn't crash).

The white screen issue seems likely to be USB device incompatibility. A lot of USB devices are incompatible atm.

As far as I know Contra - Shattered Solider (SLUS_203.06), is also incompatible...at least it didn't work for me off of the USB with OPL 0.7.

From previous experiences with Open PS2 Loader giving me a white screen, it was because the game wasn't defragmeted. Which I found very hard to do since i too use a 4GB SanDisk USB for some of my games and my Flash Drives don't seem to ever defragment properly, I'm guessing its because they're full and the defragmentation process requires space to move the files around(but this is just a guess, it could be something else). Try defragmenting your Flash Drive and try again.
    Don't get me wrong;...

    I love the weirdos...

That is absolutely correct, making such methods of defragmentation worthless when the remaining free space is smaller than the size of the fragments that need to be moved. In fact there are defragmentation methods that can handle such cases too, but I don't know any defragmentation programs that use them properly. Most of them will just give up for such cases, either stating the remaining fragmentation as unfixable, or just leaving it unchanged without even commenting on it.

Fortunately there is a very simple way of defragmenting such flashdrives anyway, provided only that you have space enough on a PC HDD for all the data from the flashdrive (this PC storage space may be fragmented, as that does not matter at all).

The procedure is just as follows:

1: Make a 'work' folder on the PC HDD that has extra space
2: Copy all contents from the flashdrive to the 'work' folder (just normal drag-drop copy)
3: Reformat the flashdrive fully (for PS2 this should always use FAT32 format)
4: Copy all contents from the 'work' folder back to the flashdrive (normal drag-drop again)
5: Unless you want to save it as a backup, delete the 'work' folder, as it's no longer needed

And that is all. The drive is then completely defragmented.

    Not very useful/constructive post...

But yes, it's easy to assume this would be one of the games people would want to play first and since most of the coders for Open PS2 Loader are EUROPE based no wonder the PAL version works and the NTSC one does not.

This is going to be fixed soon and hopefully the fix will help other games as well.

I think CloneCD might be the cause of your problems, as its a great program for PS1 games, but im not so sure its good for PS2 CDs. You should use IMGBurn, Nero or Alcohol for your PS2 CDs, and DVD Decrypter or IMGBurn for your PS2 DVD games.

This is probably due to fragmentation as Alcohol 120% should produce a good rip.

This game is compatible with OPLv0.7 on HDD, USB and SMB (network). I had trouble with this game (read first page of the release thread (Open PS2 Loader Project - v0.9)) early in the development of OPL and found it to be caused by my USB device. This game also works fine with IGR.
    PS2 Consoles:

    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

Imgburn also works fine for creating an ISO from a PS2 CD, it complains a bit but it works fine, you just have to make sure you choose .ISO instead of .BIN when creating the initial file, then press 'Yes' when it complains and it's fine.

Honestly PEOPLE SHOULD STOP USING ISO FORMAT FOR PLAYSTATION CD-ROM FORMAT.

Why ? IMGBURN will make a 2048 bytes per sector ISO if you do it that way and that will likely break the games.

For once .ISO CD-ROMs can't be easily burnt back onto discs after that is done.

That problem does not exist on DVD ISOS because their sector size is fixed at 2048 bytes per sector.
