ok, getting a bit confused here. I have compiled r644 and i am trying to add cover art. I have made the +OPL partition on my HDD ( internal ) , i have made the folder ART.
I have downloaded jayjay's themes and cover art. I have renamed the files to the pal version of the game I.E. changed SCUS_123.45_COV.png
to SCES_654.32_COV.png these are random numbers not the real game numbers......

i also downloaded another collection from this site as well and renamed the ones i need. I have deleted the art for the games i dont have.

ok so that is what i have done now here is the problem.

only some of the art shows in OPLr644 , and only some of the art shows in OPL 0.8

I have checked the properties of the art all are 200 high and 140 wide. what gives? are they not just picture files? why do some not load in r644 but do load in 0.8?

i have just downloaded the official 0.9 no VMCversion and will try that.

as a side note GT4 no longer boots on r644 but works fine with no modes on 0.8

i compile with yoshi's linux VM with oracle VM virtual box. no problems getting the update and no warnings or errors when compiling.

when opl is starting up, remove the memory card so that the config is not loaded, and reconfigure your setup.

ok for example. the art for GT4 loads in r644 but the game wont start just black screen...... debug colours off at the moment will have to turn them back on and try again.

using jayjay black on black for r644. no theme used at all for 0.8 just default. in 0.8 GT4 art did not show.

GTA3 art does show in 0.8 but doesent in r644.... as i said before all art is 140 by 200 and png files .

If you grabbed some cover-art from sksapps.com, it could be a case I've seen plenty of times on my end: cover ART files that are fine dimension wise, but break in OPL due to being too large in Kliobytes. What I end up having to do is load such ART files into an image editor/viewer (still using CompuPic here) to convert and/or re-compress them into JPGs that are between 11KB-21KB in weight. Then OPL loads them without problems ...

ok, so the cover art can be a jpg? all of the ones i found are png. in jayjay's download of cover art the main cover is a png and the added screenshots are jpg.

will definitely try and change them all to jpg.. thanks.

on another note IGR always turns the console off in r644 ? i left the path blank as it says to boot back into the browser but it doesnt work.

    cheers

    EDIT:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    well im an idiot!!!!

in my defence it was near midnight...lol

the art that did not work in r644 did not have "_COV" after the game id...... these did not work in r644 but did in 0.8 release.... doh!!!!

You can also use PNGOptimizer. It reduces the overall size by stripping out bits that aren't used in the pic. Very handy, and free.

    http://psydk.org/PngOptimizer.php

Or, for those not in windows... Web based:
    http://www.pngoptimizer.com/

    *Edit
YEY! Posted a link and didn't have to fight the Link Filter. ^.^

For the game covers I don't see a point in using pngs...you don't need transparency there.
jpg can be even 4 times smaller than the png and the quality of the image on your tv still to be the same.

Every cover I have is less than 20kb.
You need png only if the element need transparency(or if opl accept only pngs for certain element)

true but the art folder is on my internal HDD which is a 500GB Hitachi. i have approx 8 GB left and only made a 256MB partition for OPL and ART. so far i have used less than 40MB so it should not be a problem and i can always expand the partition with uLE.

Even so,the smaller the files the faster they will be loaded.
