The World Drowns v0.1 + Source Code + a request for artists
The World Drowns v0.1 + Source Code + a request for artists –

The World Drowns is (or will be) a 3D homebrew PS3 action RPG game.
To be clear I want to begin by saying that I don’t actually recommend anyone bother with downloading this. It is not a particularly accurate representation of my expectations for the final game. At this stage in development it is simply a non game comprised of a hacked together sequence of kludges. Its garbage.
Well making it its purpose was primarily for testing out obj format mesh loading. The reasoning for posting it though is simply that I thought it would be easier to attract artists if I had some form of a demo to show for the game that I want them to contribute to.
I’m looking for people to create the 3d models, textures and eventually animations for the characters and environments. So if your interested in pitching in then let me know.

Looks promising, OP. Unfortunately I've got no skills to contribute to something in such early stages, but if you ever get to the point where you're looking for (contributions to) a soundtrack, let me know.

The title sounds cool and fits the RPG bill nicely. I hope the game gets to a working state.

Im really intressted in your project.
What about the story of the game? you need somekind of concept.
If I would create some low-polygon models in blender could you use them? I could do some fences, walls, tree's , maybe a character (im not a professionel but should be ok for the start).
please give us more informations and what kind of artist work you need.

Yeah, ThatOtherPerson I sent you a PM and I might be able to make a few simple objects if you have anything in mind. I have some limited 3D modeling skills. If you post here what kind of art you're wanting I'm sure a few of us could throwsome models your way.
What format are you wanting them in and do you want the models built with triangles or quads? I haven't looked through the 3D stuff in the sdk yet as I'm focusing on the 2D stuff first so I'm not sure what format the PS3 accepts. Just a plain binary export?

Sorry I hadn't replied to your PM yet.
As you can tell from the screenshot the game uses regular triangular polygons. As I mentioned in the description the format I've written a loader for is OBJ. The OBJ format don't support animation so obviously I'll be changing formats to something else eventually for the character models but that is what the game will be using for a while and probably forever when it comes to anything that doesn't require animation. You can use common sense when deciding how much is too much or too little complexity when constructing the models. The polygon count on the main character that I had made for the game is 5164 but that isn't really an indication of anything. The demo should give you a basic idea of what I want made. The game will be vaguely similar to something like Zelda only with more of an RPG element. As for the style I have no recommendations or request. As long as I think the end result is visually appealing and interesting and it fits in well with any art assets already completed for the game (which there are none currently) then it can be however you want it to be. You have near total artistic freedom.
Nobody needs my permission to make anything. If you want to be a part of the games development then just make something. Anything. Make a level (or even just a section of the environment) or a character and then post it. If I like it then I'll use it.

wow finally a dev working on a damn RPG
I cant find any good RPGs for my ps3
I maybe start a small village in blender that would match to a RPG, im not really good with Blender at all ... im currently learning it to create some models for you, but shoudlnt be a big deal since there alot of tutorials out there.
When im finished with the the small village I upload everything and lets see what you can do with it.
so long,

I just started with blender again 3 days tryed some stuff and made a terrain (very small with a quad-house in it). Im used heightmaps for this terrain, I could also build whole level's but im not that good with building stuff yet, once I figured out everything in blender I can make some kick-ass stuff cause my drawings skills are good, but my blender skills arent :O
if someone is willed to model a drawed character of me I will draw some, cause at the moment im not able to model a char.

made a lil path to the house as you see.
If you want some terrains for your game (without objects) I could do them. You probally able to do it yourself xD
