Streaming movies and copying them to the hard drive is possible. refer to this link to see how
once you've set up the streaming service, click the triangle on the movie you've selected to copy, then click copy, save it to your hard drive, and enjoy it as it you wish

this,

plus you can only do this with formats the ps3 supports, ie specially encoded mp4's and avi's. no mkv support.
