Is there a program for AVI movies?

AVI is not a video format but rather a container that can house all sorts of video formats.

I have had issues with .mp4, usually i just encode em in Xvid with avidemux.

PS3 Plays most file types, but not as many as Showtime, consider showtime like a VLC Media Player and the PS3 like Quick Time or whatever it's picky as hell what it will play. Although I am not impressed with it's AVCHD capabilities...the PS3 Media Player does a better job at handling those "so far" anyway.....
