    Hi,

Can someone offer me some help please?
I had a problem with my Playstation 3, It was not reading any discs at all. I ordered a new Laser and installed following a guide on Youtube.

The PS3 has developed a new problem now, when I start the machine up it shows a red light as normal.
If I press the power button it shows a green light and straight away the PS3 turns off, within a second.

I just hear a click, green light then off.

I have tried re-installing the old laser to go back to the original problem but now with the old laser installed it is just green light then straight off.

Any help will be gratefully received.

the ps3 bluray drives are a right pain to put back together with all the mechanical arms/channels in the right place. if its not 100% put back together properly the console does what you are saying. not sure if there is a decent vid on youtube, but i cant post links anyway. see if the console turns itself on if you try to insert a disc, you'll see what i mean! (edit: use an old cd not a ps3 game, i think your bluray drive mechanical bits are not lined up)

PS3's are cheaply made junk to be quite honest. You've got to be super careful with those crappy thin film connectors, make sure the fragile old clips don't break....
First be sure it's not a mobo issue, unplug the BD rom and see if it still turns off. triple check all the cheap cables and connectors... The weak @$$ tiny disk sensor with the world smallest connector, I busted one of those before just pulling it out... check the gears are in proper position, the guide rollers should swing up...

Try it without the BD drive bro..!!

If Console turns on just reassemble the BD drive again..!! You probably have missed something and PS3 may be detecting a short circuit or something..!!
Don't panic..!!! Try a different video this time..!!!

Sounds like a hardware related issue. Either it is a short or it can be you need a new power supply. Doesnt sound like the YLOD. It def is a hardware issue.
