That's what Gary and I just referred to.

I can wait until Geohot releases HIS tools. I have a project sitting here, a C++ class lib and a .NET GUI that I intended on building into a full-blown dev tool for everything from PUPs down to SELFs. I already have code I wrote a while back to properly parse an SFO file, which will go nicely with an EBOOT manipulator. The keys are still a mess - ugh - everythign needs to be cleaned up, and my code won't be on github, svn, or sourceforge. I've always released my stuff as a RAR with the source included.
Honestly, I hate the crypto stuff... it gives me headaches. I use some of it for interprocess communication with windows apps I write for military intranet/enterprise-class support apps, but my stuff doesn't need to be as bullet-proof as Sony's was designed to be (it's pretty much protected anyway, the crypto is basically in there as overkill).
If somebody already has access to the tools, and the proper key files, give stroker25's suggestion a whirl and post the result somewhere. I can test it on my bricked console with a file to flash. If it works, it should also work on a 3.55 console. Changing the authid will also change the hash and sig - so that should pretty much cover anything the revoke list could be using to block the original app.
Having a functional lv2diag.self for 3.55 should be a priority.
We may not be able to downgrade some people's consoles that seem to be efused (or whatever Sony did), but even they can be helped by being able to flash if their console becomes bricked beyond recovery mode. For others, it means testing becomes far less risky.
