Remove DRM from EDAT in Borderlands 2 PSN version
Remove DRM from EDAT in Borderlands 2 PSN version –
12-04-2012,10:21 PM
I bought the PSN version of Borderlands 2 and I have my act.dat and .rif file that was created when I activated the game. I can freely decrypt the NPDRM EBOOT.BIN but even when re-signing it to be DRM free, the game won't boot without the bl2.edat in the USRDIR of the game package folder. If that file is not present, the game says my game install is corrupted and must be deleted and the game re-installed.
I have my IPDS file with my IPDS in hex format as well as my act.dat and the Borderlands 2 license .rif file.
I am mostly doing this out of pure curiosity of how the scene teams are removing the DRM and decrypting EDAT files.
I can convert the NPDRM EBOOT.BIN to .elf and back to .bin but the game simply won't boot without the bl2.edat file.
On a side note, I encounter the exact same issue with the Disc version of Borderlands 2 if I convert it to NPDRM for hard drive install. It's almost like the game reacts differently if the EBOOT.BIN is set to the NPDRM type and that some NPDRM was built into the Disc version and is ignored when the EBOOT.BIN is not an NPDRM type.
Any ideas on how to go about this?

edats are always required for DLC/PSN games. What happens when someone releases a fixed version is they remove the need for the RAP/RIF file

How do THEY remove the need for the RIF? I have fully decrypted the NPDRM EBOOT.BIN and can view its contents and there is a reference to the bl2.edat in the EBOOT.BIN. I though decrypting the NPDRM EBOOT.BIN and changing its license to free would eliminate the need for the RIF file.

I could tell you but that would be against the piracy rule here. My suggestion would be to ask one of the known DLC/PSN patchers. Or get the latest SDK and do a ton of reading on how to use it. There's no easy "runme" kind of app to automate it
