PS3 Slim Install Loop OFW 4.00
PS3 Slim Install Loop OFW 4.00 –
09-02-2012,07:36 AM
I have a 2001-a which wants to load 4.00, but it will stop at 18%. I did a format of the HDD and still it stops at 18%.
The install is asking for 4.00, but the closest version to that I have is 4.10 so I am trying to install that.
Anyone have any ideas the holdup? Is it cause im trying to install a different version then its asking for. I have looked
high and low for OFW 4.00, but cannot find it anywhere. Anyone know where I can D/L 4.00 pup at?
Thanks in Advance,
J Stepehens

Only place I have found that has 4.00 was at ps3news, But I don't think that's is your problem.
When stuck in a firmware update loop it is most likely a hardware error.
For me it has been bad hard drives, bluetooth board or a bad blue ray drive and once the problem has been fixed I was able to update the firmware.

I had a similar issue when I had my 60 gig on OFW 3.41 once. I Did the option in the Recovery Menu that checked and fixes the HD for errors and I think that cleared up the error.
Note: that if u have a HD bigger than 450 Gb it will cause issues. I don't know if it is just the Western Digital Scorpio Blue's or all Hard Drives, but anything over 450Gb has errored-out with that option in the recovery menu.

Thanks for the replies. I Tried 4.00 and a Different HD a 60gb instead of the orignal 120gb. Both I did a Computer
format into NTFS before I put it into the ps3 so it would have to Format in PS3 format. It keeps stopping at
19%. What I understand if it stops in the 70%'s its most likly a Blu-Ray issue. Im starting to think its something else
Bluetooth or something like that. Has anyone else had one stop around the 19% mark? And what was the problem?
Thanks

your ps3 may have a corrupt HDD. try testing it via PCCheck (on computer) or Ubuntu Disc Utility to check for bad clusters.
if this problem occur, you may have a bad RAM chip. you can try testing via Memtest (on petitboot) on 3.55-otheros++.
sorry my bad english.
