Okay, so I came across this fun piece of news:
    http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/ps3-rsod-fix-1903/

Which *might* fix the RSOD problem. I had this PS3 sitting in my closet for years anticipating this very thing. So I plug it all in, boot it up, and get RSOD like usual. Okay, then I tried recovery menu. Power on (holding button)->power off->power on (holding button)-> wait for two beeps....nothing. The ps3 wont get into recovery menu! I KNOW I've done this before, but now I can't get to it. So I attached the laptop HDD to my computer and formatted it. Plugged it into the PS3 and it no longer even attempts to boot and get RSOD. It just turns on, lags a long time, then starts trying to read the hard drive and shuts off.

What the hell can I do? I tried booting with my dongle with no success. I'm pretty sure it has 3.55 on it.

I mean...I have two more PS3s, one fully functional (the other wants me to reformat the hard drive because I turned it off while running the PL3 payload program), but I'd like to see this working. Having a blu-ray player in every room is fun

Thats the brick I had before I decided to install the E3 Flasher, never looked back. from memory they call this a boot loop.. There's way to get the console to stay on but it gives you a black screen.. but thats enough to reflash your NOR and start over.. I constantly keep pushing the eject button after power.. so you push power then eject, then keep tapping eject.. it take a while for it to work. but it will work also sounds like the console was on 3.56 I could be wrong tho.. U need a NOR Flasher I recommend the E3 Flasher its easy to use and install..

Would you mind sharing how you resolved the problem using the E3 Flasher please?

Yeah no worries. Its a little long, I'll have to shorten it a bit. Basically I installed the teensy++ in hopes to fix this problem with no luck I couldn't seem to get a clean dump in saying the only way I could get my console to stay on was either the method I mentioned earlier or hook teensy to pc while on ps3. So I put the it in storage for aBit unill I found that the e3 flasher was released. So while the teensy was still connected I installed the e3 aswell. I had the teensy hooked to the pc to keep the ps3 running then proceeded to do the downgrade process on the e3 flasher. Long story short it worked my console Is online Ive done tutorials using this console. I'm pretty confident the e3 will work even tho u prob wont have teensy soldered to ps3. If you search the forum or chck my threads you'll see that I asked the sme question over 6 months ago with no solution. Funniest thing is I fixed it myself. check out my console on my YouTube importsonlyau's Channel - YouTube if I haven't answered your question please MSG me for more details on process. Thanks

Eh...not sure if I'll go through the trouble. I don't have an E3 flasher and I can probably pick up a PS3 for $100. Plus the whole having two other ones...

Honestly if I could just get the friggin recovery menu this would all be fixed. I, however, am not taking the thing apart again.
