Ps3 region modification
Ps3 region modification –

I have a theory. If I buy a cecha01 ps3 which has both the ps2s CPU and gpu but is American region locked, swap out the bluray drive board for an exact same board from a uk cechc03 bluray drive board, remarry the motherbOard and the new bluray drive board, will it allow me to play the DVD and bluray discs from the uk region?
I ask this because Sony decided to leave uk out with full ps2 b/c while America and Japan got it. So if I am to remarry the two bits of hardware successfully (which can be done if I have ofw 3.55 or lower, will the cecha01 ps3 be able to play ps2 games and blurays from the uk? I know most ps3 games are region free do that won't matter. I think in theory it should work as the region information is stored on the bluray drive board and not on the hdd.

In theory this is highly plausible, and I do think it may work, however i don't know what remarry is but i actually doubt that it will work, if this does work however It will be big news to the rest of the ps3 owners in the UK. GO FORTH AND TRY IT!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could buy I simply do not have the money

Remarry is the process to repair the bluray drive board to another ps3 motherboard. This is neccessary as by default the ps3 motherboard and the ps3 bluray drive are paired meaning another bluray drive board will not work with another ps3, even if it came from the exact same ps3 model/bluray.
I read on ps3 developers wiki that repairing is possible, but have no way of testing it.
