I've spent most of the year working on making the PS3 region free for DVD/PS1/PS2 playback.

Then I see this on the front page:

this only works for blu ray and nothing else, for dvd the old xregistry trick applies...
    ...from kurekure.

My question is: What the hell is he talking about?

I know there's an xregistry hack out there and you can use it to change DVD regions. I was also under the impression that no one had found a way to successfully get it to play a DVD from another region.

    So what gives.

Me too, and many more, want to know how this can be done. I've already asked about how to do this in the past but nobody said nothing...
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks

I *did* a Simple Google Search, new moderator on the block.

Then I did a COMPLICATED google search.

    Then I switched to Yahoo.

I actually read that thread up until post 4 or so where they mentioned something about using DVDshrink, at which point I assumed nobody there knew what the hell they were talking about.

    Anyway:

    1. Thanks for digging a little deeper.
    2. Why the hell isn't information of this magnitude posted on some real site?

    As for two:

    You need:

    - FTP Client for PS3 (z.B. FTPServer 1.1 v. blackb0x)

    - FTP Client for PC (z.B. Filezilla, UltraFXP)

    - xRegistry Editor V.0.75

    Step by Step:

    - activate FTPServer on PS3

    - Start FTP Client on

    - in FTP Client browse to PS3 nach /dev_flash2/etc/xRegistry.sys

    - copy the xRegistry.sys to PC (make a Backup !!!)

    - start xRegistry Editor & open xRegistry.sys File

    - search for Entry /setting/bddvd/dvdRegionCode

    - change Value 00000000 to 00000002 (asian to european)
    (last Digits: 0=asian, 1=americian, 2=european)

    - search for Entry /setting/bddvd/bdRegionCode

    - change Value 00000000 to 00000002 (asian to european)
    (last Digits: 0=asian, 1=americian, 2=european)

    - push Save Button to save

    - copy or overwrite xRegistry.sys with FTP Client back to /dev_flash2/etc/xRegistry.sys

    - reboot PS3
Now it is. (Post 8 had more information.)

Haha, I quickly scan the threads and thankfully went a little further down. My google search was xregistry.sys ps3 dvd region hack. I figured somewhere in there that had to be talking about xregistry.sys so maybe there was an answer. As soon as I hit post #6, I stopped reading. Thanks for posting the full info though. I know there was a thread on here at one point in time, but with all the useless stuff clogging up the forums, it's probably not the easiest to search for (not to mention the Google Custom Search isn't on here anymore). Oh well.

Edit: BTW: I'm sorry if I came off rude. I'm at work right now and just wanted to get you a quick answer.

Apology accepted. You actually did pretty well for a new moderator on the block. =)

...not to mention you found the answer!

Simply editing the xRegistry doesn't change the DVD region. kurekure was mistaken.

xregistry contains data about your ps3. So changing anything there wont do anything about DVD region. Bd driver's firmware need to be patched or something to change it i think.

Only one thing ,with i could made is to change /setting/bddvd/dvdTvSystem to 2 ,and now i can play PAL DVD on my CECHE01 NTSC PS3. But only those ,with are region free. Before was PAL broadcast not supported.
Any combination of bdRegionCode ,dvdRegionCode and/or licenseArea gives nothing.
