PS3 new blu-ray won't take in disc except when booting

The blu-ray drive on my old ps3 was broken, so I replaced it with a new one. Followed a tutorial on Youtube and used my old circuit board.

When I boot it up with the new drive, it won't take in any disc. So I figured I might've installed it wrong or something. Pull it back out and making sure that everything is connected properly. When I booted it again, I noticed that the blue light is shining so I figured maybe I did it correctly this time. But nope, it won't take in the disc.

Out of curiosity, I rebooted it and try to insert the disc when the blue light is shining. To my surprise, it works. It accepts the disc and can read it. I can play the game with no issue. However, when I eject the disc it won't take it back in. It will only accept a disc when the ps3 is booting up.

So basically, my new blu-ray drive works fine except it will only accept disc when the ps3 is being turned on.

My question is, what exactly is the problem? Did I did something wrong when replacing the drive? Or is the drive just faulty?

I thought drive motherboards were married to the drive, not the console motherboard... Check into that again? I could be wrong...

Otherwise, and as supported by the lack of response from other forumites, sounds like a freak "once-in-a-lifetime" incident... Maybe something within the drive is out of line, I know the phat bluray drives **** up all the time from gears getting caught and such..

You could have a damaged laser or something? Maybe the new one you brought got damage internally while it was on the way to you?
Take it apart and check nothings out of place (its not too hard, just be careful with that little black and red wire!.
