    Guys,

A friend of mine bought a used PS3 that was broken. The owner told him it was the blu-ray that wasn't working annymore. Since i got a little bit more brains for this kind of stuff he asked me to help him fixing it. So i opened the PS3 and the blu-ray by using movies on Youtube. Then i discovered that several parts were missing in the blu-ray.

So waiting to order new parts for the blu-ray i tried it with my own blu-ray. This one is complete and is fully working on my PS3. Both PS3's are 40 gig phat models. I installed my own fully working blu-ray in the PS3 of my friend and tried to launch him. The PS3 starts correct but when i enter a disc i hear the blu-ray working but the game doesn't appears in the XMB under GAME.

I used my own cable to connect the blu-ray to the PS3 so it can't be the cable or the full blu-ray because it's still working for my own PS3.

Does annybody know what the problem can be?

    Hopefully someone can help me.

    thx in advance

Did you switch the logic boards? They are assigned to the PS3 motherboards, so if you put your drive in without switching the logic board that is why. If not then you are having the exact same problem as me, except I'm pretty sure mines a broken ribbon.

    ------EDIT-------

I'm not sure if thats nooby enough..I mean no offence to you of course, just incase you don't know I'll save you having to ask another question :P

The logic board is the small PCB board that is screwed onto the BluRay drive
Yes, I am a noob, but I am not stupid.

System progress: 60GB 3.55 KMEAW installed, YLOD fixed, working replacement BluRay Drive..will have ribbon tomorrow, so hopefully my system will be up and running!

haha thx mate... i switched the entire disc-station with the logic board from my own PS3. So the let this work i need to screw of my board and then screw the board from the broken drive to the working drive
    Gonna test that mate !

Thanks man, let me know how it goes 'cause if it still doesn't work then maybe my problem isn't the ribbon..

I'm literally in the exact same boat as your mate - got a broken 60GB for nothing, it was YLOD, fixed that then found out the BD drive didn't work. I was so pissed lol. Got a working one now, and its exactly how you described it - except I already did switch the logic board :/

    ------EDIT-----

I realllllllllly hope you read this before doing it - be careful not to break the sensor wire/tiny yellow clip! its the tiniest little plug on the logic board, and is very easy to not notice and the clip breaks off with the slightest tug - I did this but luckily had the other drive spare to just nick it off. It will still work if you have accidently done this by the time of reading, so don't panic too much you just have to push the disc a little further in to make it suck it up..lol not the best wording there, but I'm sure the point gets across.

No, his issue is different, cause in your case the disc spins, but in his case it doesn't, and I know it even without him saying it because that's the normal behaviour when you use a non-married logic board. By "hear the blu-ray working" he probably meant the little noises when putting the disc in place :P

Also, the sensor cable you broke isn't a big deal (I had the same issue lol). There are actually 2 sensors in those drives. If the one with the tiny cable is broken, the ps3 just tries to swallow a disc at boot for 10 seconds, and you need to push the disc a bit farther in for the ps3 to detect it. That said, it's better to replace the cable ofc :P

    You know too much man

BUT You've finally let me know how I can repay you for helping me out so much! I have another of those sensors, like you said it doesnt matter much but it is better to replace it! If you PM me your address I'll happily send you it man, Im sure it won't cost more than a pound to send to spain lol
