HELLO EVERY ONE I JUST TRIED TO UPDATE AN OLD PS3 40G PHAT FROM 3.56 TO 4.31 AT FIRST ALL WENT WELL UNTIL IT JUST KEPT LOOPING THE UPDATE SO I REMOVED THE BATTERY FROM THE MOTHER BOARD PUT IT ALL BACK NOW IT WONT LOAD IT JUST SWICHES OFF I CAN ONLEY GET INTO RECOVERY MENU WERE IT WONT READ ENEY HDD I HAV FORMATED THEM ON PC TO NTSC AND STILL I GET NO HDD DETECTED IN RESTORE PS3 SYSTEM REBILD AND A SERIOS ERROR HAS OCERD WEN I TRY TO UPDATE CAN ENEY ONE HELP PLZ
Just a helpful hint, standard internet protocol is to not use all caps when posting a message. It's generally interpreted as yelling and somewhat common knowledge. You may have a better chance of getting your answer if you edit your post with proper casing.
Bonus tip: Proper punctuation never hurts too. Nobody likes to read a wall of text.
Now, about your issue, I'm not sure what the initial problem is. It seems like you had a semi-brick. Removing the battery on the motherboard probably made the problem worse. Also, there's no need to format the drive to NTFS. The PS3 will format the drive regardless.
